HUrdle made several ??? moves here tonight. Snyder should not have been pinch hit for. His numbers against lefties this year are ok. Then you could have saved Gaby to pinch hit for Jones whose numbers and at bat tonight are abysmal. Then using Grilli in a tie game is just plain stupid. He wasn't hit hard but even the Mets announcers were scratching their collective heads. I really like Ron Darling as a color guy. His insight is usually spot on. Bucs don't hit with men in scoring position but Hurdle is the goat for his management or lack there of tonight. Wake up Clint, jeez oh man...... :( :( :(

its hr or bust with the pirates offense. the batters swing at everything. they are trying for home runs instead of just getting on base.

I don't have any stats to back it up but my gut is this offense becomes a train wreck everytime Walker is injured.

My coworkers and I were just talking about that this morning. Walker's injury the last month of the season last year. What happened? The team fell apart. Ill throw some simple record stats together based on his time on the dl.

You all need to relax and stop complaining about Hurdle's managing. Last night, he pitches Grilli in 9th inning and he ends up losing the game. However, if he wouldn't have put Grilli in the game, you all would have been furious. and obviously a pinch hitter isn't going to get a hit everytime he comes to the plate. how about we let the guy who knows these players a hundred times better than we do, do his job.

Because that wouldn't be fun, and everyone knows that everyone is smarter than the manager.

And, the backup quarterback is always better than the starter...

The offense was clicking for a while but then Walker and Snider's injuries both hurt. Neil will be back soon and I think they will heat up, especially since the competition is not as tough. This is not a great offense but they can be league average I think.

Locke has settled in nicely, Gomez is an adequate back-end guy, and if Liriano comes in and pitches well I think we're at least on track for a .500 season. Cole had a good outing last night too.

They are 3-6 since the start of the Milwaukee series, which is not good, but you're going to have your bad stretches. I still think there is more good than bad here, relative to what we have become accustomed to.

I must respectfully disagree. You want to use your closer in the 9th at home to preserve the tie and allow you to have a chance to win it in the bottom of the 9th. On the road, you save your closer to save the game should you go ahead in the top of the 9th or beyond. That's Baseball 101. And no, I would not have been furious if he didn't pitch the 9th. In fact I was surprised he did, as were the Mets' announcers. Yes, a pinch hitter will not always get a hit, but to burn you best pinch hitter that allows Jones, who is the worst of the bunch against lefties, to not be pinch hit for is not setting your team up for it's best chance to win. Clint has a track record for making head scratching managerial moves and these backfired.

Back in the day backup QB's in Buffalo hung record breaking comeback wins in the books.

I don't understand why you have to save your closer until you have a lead on the road. Why? Isn't the bottom of the 9th the most important inning at that point?

You can't have it both ways! Just a couple days ago, everyone was bitching because Hurdle did NOT use Grilli in a similar situation. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't! Could you have imagined if this team had lost using a different pitcher than Grilli in the 9th? I can see the bitching now about that! It happens. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. And without everyone's favorite whipping boy, Pedro, we would have been shut out.

Go Bucs.
