Please let Mercer get off to a hot start leading to the end of the Barmes/McDonald era.

I humbly beseech the baseball gods that Jordy Mercer hit, draw walks, steal bases, and play good defense at second base.

I further ask the baseball gods for a quick recovery by one Neil Walker.

I further humbly ask the baseball gods that Clint Hurdle be suitably impressed by Jordy Mercer's exploits, such that he implores Neal Huntington to keep Mercer once Neil Walker comes off the DL.

I finally implore the baseball gods that the middle infield for the Pirates the rest of 2013 is Neil Walker at 2B, and Jordy Mercer at SS, and that the Pirates' line-up for the rest of the season consists of positional players who give the team a positive WAR:

1. Marte LF
2. Snider/Tabata RF platoon
3. McCutchen CF
4. Jones/Sanchez 1B platoon
5. Walker 2B
6. Alvarez 3B
7. Martin C
8. Mercer SS

Look at that ... eight players who hit and get on base, seven who have some power, and three who can run.

Great line from a great movie, the underappreciated "Groundhog Day."

Barmes with the whiff ... he dodged a pitch that would have hit him. Given his feeble at-bats, with two outs, he should have taken the HBP like a man to get on base and avoid having the pitcher lead off the next inning.

Aaaaaand the first base umpire blows the call, and calls Suzuki safe at first when he was out.

Detwiler is just throwing fastball after fastball, over the middle of the plate and the Buccos are unable to do anything.

Snider and Tabata injured, Jones sits vs. a lefty.

It took half of one game for Mercer to match Barmes RBI total for all of last month.

In one of the most predictable moments of the season, Jordy Mercer displays more power in 3 ABs than Clint Barmes and John McDonald did in 95.
