Again hurdle leaves him too long. Irwin looked better than jmac. This is more than a second half collapse. I think if jmac keeps pitching like this, he might not be in the major leagues much longer. Cardinals look like they are taking batting practice.

That was pure batting practice. Fastball topped out at 90 according to the tv radar. Zero break on his curve. No control. That about sums it up. This was my fear...already have an injury to Wandy, albeit not major, and JMac looks like toast. Liriano better get healthy fast. Gonna need some help for this staff....

Yes, it would have been nice to go at least another inning. Of course, he appeared completely unable to produce an out or anything close to it.

Bryan Morris is going to have to log some innings soon (don't know why he wasn't used instead of Melancon last night) and fan faves like Hughes and Watson will also have to throw more than they're used to.

The scary thing: Sanchez is pitching tomorrow night... *gulp*

Burnett, being a veteran, had an idea how to fight to get to the end of the inning. He also has the mental makeup to deal with it. Honestly...I'm not sure JMac had another out in him.

Not defending him, but he should have been out of the inning 3-1

I hear ya...but to turn the tables if the Cards ran the bases properly in the first inning it could've been worse.

Thank you Clint Barmes.

I'm not defending Jmac either but his velocity isn't there and his command is bad. Guy used to hurl 93-95 consistently with a knee buckler for a curveball and a changeup that dropped off the table.

Where did that guy go?

In all fairness, GI Jones reacted very poorly to Barmes' throw. Ugly all the way around.

People need to calm down with the "OUR PITCHING STAFF IS DOOMED!" cries. It was the same types of response with the offense when they started 1-5 and weren't hitting. For the most part the pitching staff has been very good thus far, and that's with working with two injuries of guys who are expected to be back next month and one who is expected to be back for his next start. Even J. Sanchez delivered a very good start his first time around. No need to panic. There are improvements on the way and the placeholders have done fine in the meantime thus far.

PNC PARK is officially out of toilet paper after that giant dump JMac took all over the mound tonight.
