Get it together, val.

Well, I am a casual Pirates fan at best and I don't really care for baseball. Work's been hard and we're incorporating a foster child into our family, and that's proving more difficult than we expected, and I forgot it was Friday, to be honest.

Watched game tonight with Cards fan tonight. He was commenting about Meals' inconsistency. Good win tonight.

Based on the calls, I just assumed it was him or Randy Marsh. :D

I agree. He's a p.o.s! Great ball player however.

I don't get the hate for Phillips. He's demonstrative and excitable, but he plays hard and he plays well. He would be LOVED in Pittsburgh.

The pounding of his chest as ran around the base pads after one or both of his home runs was a bit too much for me. I don't need to see that can of display on the playing field no matter who the player is or how charitable he is off the field.

It's always the something extra he does to show up his opponents. Not usually much, but it's always there. Disrespectful.

If Phillips ran down to first base and gave a thumbs up back to his dugout, that would be a fair comparison.

My kids call Phillips the hot dog. It's not like he runs down to the first base and claps enthusiastically. He is over the top and if you like that kind of thing, good for you. I don't. And I don't like him.

No, that's a bad comparison. Lots of teams have some little thing they do as a TEAM for fun and maybe also to give the fans something fun to latch on to. Phillips gestures are always the chest thumping, ME, ME, ME kind of stuff that rubs lots of people the wrong way. When Bonds would act like this people used to freak out about it.

I've heard he's a great guy...great with kids, etc...and I love to hear that. I still could do without his chest thumping and hot dogging that he does on the field.

Very fun night at the park, even though it was freezing again with a strong cold win blowing out to left center. Phillips got a lot of help on that second HR, Cutch thought he had all kinds of room. I can't understand the decision to let Watson face Phillips, CH had Hughes ready and he didn't need him for the 8th.

Not a bad crowd for a cold night in April. I got a chuckle out of Barmes's walk up music choice - Pearl Jam - "Alive" as in "I'm still alive". Jones is still using sir mix-a-lot's "jump on it" which is so goofy its good. Grilli has chosen Pearl Jam's "Whipping" for his save entry music it rocks and is better than Hammer's Disturbed song.

While (once again) I said I don't have a problem with Phillips and can accept that he's polarizing, I will say that when you compare the HRs hit by Phillips and then McCutchen the next inning, I am glad the latter is on the team that I root for. That's just me, I like when players put their head down and jog around the bases, and Cutch seemed like he made his trip around the bases a lot quicker than Phillips and without the celebrating in front of the opposing team, and the game moves on quicker.

And yeah, I don't think the "Z" thing really works in that context. A lot of times when players do it they will just throw up the "Z" for a mere second or two, and only while directing it solely at he Pirates dugout. I doubt that if an opposing player found out the origin of it (if they even noticed it to begin with) they would think anything other than it being funny or stupid, not cocky or annoying.

You just went down two pegs in my book BD ;) Hammer's song was from Iowa band Slipknot and is certainly better than "Whipping" for an entrance.

I caught this as well and had meant to ask if anyone remembers his walk up music last year.

If it is a different song choice, it is brilliant.

Demonstrative, excitable, and falsely accused Hughes of being a racist. That's when I started to dislike him. Before your start tossing around accusations like that, you'd better be damned sure that you heard right.

I agree JC. I remember a game a few years back I saw at Harrisburg. Phillips was Expos property then and he looked like a man among boys. He would be loved if he were here!
