I wonder what it's like being sick about reality.

Baseball is a 162-game season. Last year was the closest the team has came in a long time to getting to .500 but you would have never expected that the way the offense was through April/May. But hey, I know you would prefer to just try to draw objective conclusions about the team's performance through not even a week's worth of baseball in a 5 month season, which is absurd and illogical. But it's okay, you can be "sick" of that ... it's a lot easier to just make "this team sucks" comments, I understand.

Pretty much this. It IS early, but this team DOES look woeful offensively through four.

Relax....they will let you know when you are allowed to be critical...

No problem whatsoever with people being critical. Everyone is disappointed with the start, including myself. But to be so reactionary to the start that you think the season is already doomed or that we know exactly what the team is going to look like, that I take exception with. Especially when someone says that saying it's early has no merit. It has been four games. Think about that for a second.

It doesn't even necessarily have to show in the score. Just give us HITS or WALKS or not-horrible at bats. Something to be optimistic about. This team has BARELY hit the ball over 4 games, barely. They did go up against some good pitching (Samardjida was filthy when we faced him), but so what? They are professional hitters. They're supposed to do better than 6 team hits over the course of the last two games.

I really don't have much confidence in Clint Hurdle anymore, I was hoping to see this team come into this season and come out of the gate slugging after how bad their start was last year. Yet we're doing all of the same things again.

But hey, it's been 4 games. 4 games later we might be watching them tear the cover off the ball, so I won't go too crazy yet. It's just definitely worth mentioning how bad they looked, though.

It's an over-reaction if fans of the Dodgers, Angels, Yankees, Cardinals, etc freak out over a poor start. They have the talent to dig out of it. The Pirates, on the other hand, have lost for 20 years. The team has to prove to me they can win before doubt will get out of my head. If the Pirates are 10 games up with 11 to go I'll still have my doubts. They've lost so fantastically over the years that I have earned the right to be critical.

It absolutely sucks being a Pirates fan. Someday this will pay off.

Believe the Guy tonight has one as well or should or will.

Doom for the talent of the bucs hitters.

Jonathan Sanchez pitched his guts out last night. He shut down the Dodgers for five innings, and clearly his tank was on E after the 5th inning.

Hurdle's decision to run him out for the 6th inning was just plain stupid. I am somewhat pleased with what I saw from Sanchez.

There's Jones striking out on 3 pitches with a RISP and no outs ... if that's Alvarez there is surely a new thread started.

Harrison pinch-hitting for Barmes ... I think I'd take my chances on the latter getting a hold of one.

I really tend to agree. In that situation, I definitely like the veteran Barmes over Harrison. Not sure of Clint's thought process there.

I understand that Kershaw and Greinke have one, but the last time I checked, Jeff Samardzija, Edwin Jackson, and Travis Wood do not....

Either way, our team batting average is .127 and we have a whopping 6 runs on the year, while Chris Davis of the Orioles has driven in 16 himself.

Edwin Jackson is a damn good pitcher. So is Samardzija.

Seems like our hitters swing at anything and everything. Undisciplined at the plate.

It'd be nice to see our hitters start using the entire field when batting and stop rolling over on everything.
