A friend of mine who owns the local bar I call home and have performed at is putting together a singer/songwriter contest. He asked me and a guy who has a new local upstart magazine in town for some input (Ideas, prizes, rules, etc).

So far the basic rules are: No more than two performers (solo or duo), songs must be original, judging will be based on the band voting (Bands vote for the other bands, cant vote for yourself).

We've been toying with some ideas for prizes and so far have thought about a trip to either Nashville or Cleveland for the weekend, recording studio time in a established studio (not someone's basement), a local custom made electric guitar, gift certificates to a music store (my store), video of one of your original songs done by the cable company, and money.

I'm also looking to see if what kind of promotional stuff I could get from some of my dealers and see if possibly one of my string companies would donate an endorsement deal for a year.

Basically, I'm looking for a fresh set of eyes and minds...Are there any ideas, thoughts, suggestions anyone could offer? All input will be greatly appreciated

Send the winners to Nashville.

Send the performers who receive the least number of votes to Cleveland.
