The talk in The Rotunda had me thinking about the past three Presidents of our great country. As a man, I can't think of three different guys that I would want to enjoy dinner and a few drinks with than these three. Can you imagine the stories they have? I mean seriously, Obama...sports fan who loves the White Sox and isn't afraid to give his opinion on sports. Bush...owned a MLB team and knows more about the game than most. Clinton...boy did he like the ladies!

Seriously, imagine sitting at a table and talking over a few beers. How cool would that be? Politics aside they are guys. They can carry a conversation about anything, not just politics.

I'd love to have been able to hang out with Ronald Reagan.

I have read some biographies of Presidents. They were all neat people. This summer I have read Truman and Lincoln (Team of Rivals). Others in clude Jefferson, John Adams,FDR. My favorite and the guy I would most enjoy having a beer with was Teddy Rosevelt.

I conclude that you don't get to be President unless you are a special person with the possible exception being guys who were war heroes and elected because of that.

You don't think being a war hero requires being a special guy of special character?

Sorry, ZM, of course you're right. I just think a couple of them, and I haven't read their bios, weren't good presidents. They must have had great qualities or they would never have risen to the top in the military. I really misspoke because of a bias of my own.

Oh, I agree that there were a number of good generals/bad POTUS. Just as many good pols/bad POTUS.

However, I think all of them, every single individual who gets to be POTUS, or even to be one of the final two candidates, has a special something in their character that let's them get to that level.

Not that it always translates to being a good POTUS, though....

I'd much rather do the same with a few members of the Supreme Court, but I suppose that speaks to my legal nerdiness.
