I'm seeing all sorts of fan reactions ranging from "too lenient" to "far too harsh." I don't particularly have a problem with the penalties announced today by the league. But then I don't care about the Saints.

Now if the Steelers were the team in question . . .

Anyone else have an opinion?

Goddell obviously hates teams that wear versions of black and gold!

In my opinion it is a massive over-reaction. Saints got screwed (I'm not a Saints fan).

I'm not familiar with all the details, but the penalties seem appropriate. No way you can tolerate that kind of behavior.

I am looking forward to the future of the National Touch-Football League.

They are actually thinking about criminal charges...intentionally causing injury is assault.

I think its pretty justified based on the reports regarding how it was covered up at so many levels. They basically were warned and Payton directly lied to the league about it. It was pretty damn arrogant on his part to ignore the smoke before the fire.

I'm sure that kind of stuff happens at some level, $100 for the first tackle in teh backfield etc., but this stuff was further over the line. Terrell Suggs openly admitted a bounty on Steeler players. I'm also pretty sure that most teams would clean it up immediately if threatened by Goddell.

Well, it is all right to hit hard and clean within the rules. If indeed, by doing so, you are trying to "knock" somebody out of the game, I guess that is also tolerable. However, to implement a bounty system with financial rewards is a bit over the top. I guess the Saints played with fire and got burned. There is no way you can keep such a reward system secret for any length of time.

A little too harsh but they had to be made an example of. They were largely targeting QBs and when QBS go down, so do ticket sales and the NFL won't be having that.

I for one think the QBs are now overly protected in the NFL. If you are a defensive lineman who gets knocked down by a block and recover and hit the QB from a prone position below the knees, you will be flagged. Excuse me MR. QB, but I have to get up off the ground before I am allowed to tackle you. What rubbish!!
