How about the NCAA on this one? Cam Newton knew nothing about the pay to play offers his dad was shopping around. Does anyone think this is a dangerous precedent to set?

Now, if my son was a Division 1 anything, I would shop him and not let him know about it. What do you have to lose except the father's reputation? Hey, I will take a blow on my rep for $180,000 as long as it doesn't hurt my son.

And what if Auburn was 9-3 right now or 5-7? Do you think the ruling would have been the same?

I hate NCAA football. I hate the BCS. The system is so corrupt it makes FIFA look like choir boys.

I am rooting for South Carolina to win the SEC Championship and then TCU to play Oregon in the BCS game and win it. It would stick it right into the craw if these arrogant big school presidents, boosters and bowl reps who have one thing in mind - money. I want a championship decided on the field like every other NCAA sports including FCS, Division II and III football.

It makes me sick.

It only hurts the dad's rep til Cam goes pro and sets him up with a nice house and car...

Don't get me started on the NCAA, the most self serving corrupt and arrogant organization in sports. My kid couldn't pass the NCAA clearing house because he only took two years of foreign language but a guy like Terrell Suggs, who was Spec Ed. all through school clears because Spec Ed students cannot be failed in a class. I am sure that is not an isolated example. Just sign 'em up and pass 'em through. What a !@#$ing joke!     That is just for a start.

Your son is a very intelligent, well-spoken young man, Az.

I am pretty sure he would not trade his life to get benefits related to looking like this:

Uhhhh ... what comes first? The 3rd quarter or
the 4th? Damn, this stuff is confusing.

You'll see Suggs selling blenders on infomercials or at sports shows signing autographs because he'll be broke about 5 years after his career is over...

As to bucco's question ... I tried to sell my son's talents for $40,000 per year, plus books.

The college accepted. :D

I guess I did not make it clear as to who would pay whom, for what.

If I were a Heisman voter, I would have omitted Newton's name as 105 or so of them chose to do. I just don't think that the whole situation was dealt with in a satisfactory manner and I think the NCAA needed to use more scrutiny when investigating these allegations. You would think that in a year where Bush gave his Heisman trophy back and USC was put on probation the NCAA would have been more hesitant about this.

It was ironic that immediately following the Heisman presentation ESPN aired their SMU special.
