Has anyone else here been watching the HBO "Hard Knocks" series on the New York Jets? I have, and it has been my first exposure to Rex Ryan, about whom I knew next to nothing before this. Gotta say, in a sport not known for gentility, he may be the most disgusting, foul-mouthed boor I've ever seen. (And I thought Bill Belichick was a jerk.) I hope the Jets humble the Patriots twice this season but otherwise get their heads handed to them, after which Ryan's fat a$$ is fired.

Kevin Gilbride saw him just in time to duck and cover.

I am rooting against the Jets but they surprised me today beating the Patriots by 2 touchdowns.

Patriots have some serious weaknesses. First, their defensive line - which used to be extremely talented and loaded with 1st rounders - is mediocre. Second, their LB'ers are not good at rushing the passer, which is death in a 3-4 defense. As a result, they get no pass pressure.

They can still move the ball on offense, but if a team can apply pass pressure rushing 3 or 4, Brady will dump it off. He is not comfortable in a "busy" pocket. He needs a very comfortable, well-protected pocket to put the ball down the field.

Finally, Belichik is a defensive coach. He always ran the ball when his teams were successful. Now, it seems like his offense does not even care about running. Faulk will rip off an 8-yard game, followed by 6 consecutive pass attempts.

Ryan is a defensive guru. His defenses - Baltimore, the Jets - play at an elite level. However, I just do not think that Sanchez is a QB who can win the game when it is put on his shoulders.

Steelers defense looks sick ... they were just vicious today. They hit Vince Young and Chris Johnson so viciously and so repeatedly that I thought those guys were going to call the police.

Johnson wanted no part of that game in the second half. He might have showed his hand. Hit him hard and often and he will quit. Kudos to the Steelers and don't ever underestimate how good Troy is and how valuable Aaron Smith is.
