I remember when this happened and thought it was a real smart business deal for the NFL owners. Does the NFLPA case hold any merit?

Maybe. It depends on (1) what fiduciary duties, if any, the NFL owners owe to the NFLPA under their CBA and (2) how the TV deal is actually structured.

The ESPN article is not very good at articulating the NFLPA's position. When I first read it, I didn't know what the NFLPA's cause of action was. When I clicked on the link to the NFLPA's website, the issue was made much clearer.
