With your interest in high school football -- especially of the inner-city variety -- I thought you might enjoy reading this piece from the ESPN website (if you haven't already). It's a nice story:

Thanks for that, Bob. That is a wonderfully written piece.

Every season there are four or five Cleveland public school teams that would go 0-10 if not for the fact that they play each other.. I always feel so bad for the one team that loses all ten games (this year Collinwood, a school in a crime ridden neighborhood.)

We have no all white Cleveland teams like the one Roosevelt beat at the end of their season.. this due to busing (desegregation of Cleveland public schools since 1980) Drew Carey's school would be all white if not for busing. But those football programs with 15-20 kids.. I've seen sooo many Cleveland teams like those over the years. No bands.. no parents, no fans, no field.. sad. Students can't see the games of their own school because they live far away.

I went to see one undermanned Cleveland team play at a suburb a few years ago. They lost 80-6.. and that suburban team was terrible (that was their only win of the season! And the same thing happened this year.) Bad football teams from the suburbs try to schedule at least one Cleveland team to assure that they will win a game.

Oh, Neil Lomax I remember well because I watched Cardinal games every week in MO. One of his Portland State teams scored over 100 points in one game!!
