There is nothing major in Pittsburgh sports going on around this time.
1. The Pirates are not winning and no excitement there.
2. The tradedeadline is over so the mlb trade rumors are over.
3. I do not care about who does what in the dumb nfl training camps.
4. The Penguins do not start up for another month (Training Camp)
Will have to wait another month for the Steelers and Pens to start playing games...until then we will have to see the Pirates try to reach 4th place.

Yep

The Dog Days of summer(per sports) are here

I start to follow the NFL preseason preparing for fantasy football but pre season football games for the most part are boring and meaningless(just like the last half of every seasons Pirate games)

Look at it this positive way...with the Pens season lasting till mid June, the void of meaningful Pgh sports has been shortened the last two years

I think 4th place is already out of the question for the Pirates. We are currently tied for 5th. I will be happy if we just finish there.

Baseball season is always interesting for me. The Steelers get interesting when they start trimming the roster. As for hockey, no thanks, I'll pass.

The first two NFL preseason games are awful....just boring as hell.

I start to really pay attention to football in September when college starts up.

Well, I went to the Lions' second preseason game here in Cleveland Saturday night. Had a good time. Two fans from Detroit sat beside me. What a stroke of luck! We were clad in blue Lions jerseys in a sea of brown and orange. Browns fans were yelling at us but we felt safe in our group. Matthew Stafford looked like a rookie QB. He has a strong arm though and it's unfair to judge him when his top three WR are all out.

Lions first team defense looked horrible. No pass rush, poor tackling, secondary can't cover anybody. Will be lucky to win two games this year.

Derek Anderson outperformed Brady Quinn much to the dismay of Quinn lovers here. Josh Cribbs ran back one kickoff and one punt for TDs (PR was called back.) The Lions missed so many tackles on those runs though. A kid from Clemson had an 80 yard TD run for the Browns.

The second half was torture, watching all the guys who will not even make the team. I did love watching players after the game though. Fun to see who talks with whom from the other team.

This weekend is one of my favorites as the high school football season begins! I'll be taking in a game with my kid. She's happy as long as she gets dippin' dots. Anyone else to be under the Friday night lights?
