The term Riverhound is derived from the expression, river dog, which refers to the barge workers that ply the three rivers at their confluence in Pittsburgh. In fact, the team's mascot, AMO, is named for the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers.

I am one of the founders of the Steel Army. You should come out. If you got to today's Pens Blog there's a pic of a guy at the game holding up a Steel Army scarf. It's a soccer movement sweeping Pittsburgh. I always thought it would be cool to bring the soccer style of singing and drum playing during games to PNC Park and just take over centerfield.

I know about the Riverhounds because our Cleveland City Stars played in and won the USL Second Div. in 2008.

We have the Green Army here. I haven't gone to any games but watched many on cable television last year.

The City Stars were champions so maybe that's why they moved up to USL-1 this season. They don't play the Riverhounds or Bermuda Hogges, etc. this year.

2009 has been a tough one. Cleveland sits in last place of the 11-team league. They've won only two of twenty games (2 wins, 12 losses, 6 ties for a measly 12 points) and have been outscored 35 goals to 15. Several local guys play on the team but their best offensive player is a guy from Ghana (Boateng.) One Bolivian guy can score goals as well. I sometimes see the African members of the team practicing at a nearby park.. players from Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Mali, South Africa, Haiti..

I wouldn't mind seeing a game but they don't play downtown anymore.. moved games to a high school way out on the east side.
