You are born and raised in Pittsburgh. Your parents are Pittsburgh sports fan. You grow up being a fan of all Pittsburgh pro sports teams. You coached the most popular team in Pittsburgh from 92-06. You move to your spouse's hometown and your loyalty changes?
The Carolina Hurricane front office should have thought a little more when letting Cowher get involved in some way with a home team in a conference final.
Benedict Cowher can choose to be a fan of whatever team he wants, but to see a born and raised Pittsburgher dressed in red trying to inspire and fire up the Carolina fans was pathetic.
If Cowher was coaching another team it would be different...this is just being a disloyal fan
Cowher is a traitor, a turncoat and has tarnished his image in Pittsburgh.

Anyone esle have an explanation on why people do this? I have a cousin who is 32 years old, lived in Pgh then moved to Raliegh and did the same thing .....and is he taking an ear beating!

It's just a game. He has ties to NC including living there. Who cares?

I feel bad for him and all those Panther fans, getting their asses so thoroughly kicked by the Pens. It really is a shame.

Sure its just a game but it is a topic for discussion for Pgh sports fans. His ties are that he is a NC State grad & thats where his wife is from. He has lived there 2 years. That is not as strong as growing up with family and buddies and being a fan of all the local pro sports teams, and coaching the Steelers. I have a sister who has lived in Raliegh for 25 years. She remains a Pgh fan. I lived in Dallas for 10, never rooted for another team. Who cares? Read the papers, the Pens/Steeler boards & listen to the talk shows.

So what? Who cares...I know guys born and raised around Pittsburgh who are fans of non Pittsburgh teams...

Sure region has some to do with who you root for, but who cares if he is a traitor? Looks like the Steelers are doing pretty well without him...

I could live with seeing Cowher coach the Panthers or an NFC team, but not a AFC team.

Bettis has let it be known that he is rooting for the Pens in this Cup, not his hometown Detroit Red Wings?

Why no outrage here??

There are a lot of things to gripe about. Cowher cheering for the team where he lives is certainly not one of them!

The the bus has a bar & grille...it would not be good for business. I could see Detroit fans ripping him. Dont know if the Bus grew up a Wings fan either...Cowher said he was a Pens fan.

I go along with estrago...

Cowher said he was a pens fan.. he rooted for Pittsburgh and got the unique job of being headcoach of the steelers.
Bettis rooted for the Pens, played in and loved Pittsburgh and never said anything about the wings ever.

I am not angry with mr Cowher, but i guess he truly let most pittsburgh fanatics down, where he was loved by so many..

I thought Mr.Cowher would be smarter and would have stayed in the background, even if he rooted for the canes.
Maybe Manny would Root for the Yankees now, be he is a Douche to be, i didn't think that way about Cowher..

But hey!! this is what a woman can do with u ;)
i did not like the idea of sex before i met them :) (guess i was 14 back then) but since......
