#6 Texas A & M Commerce (LSC) edged #5 North Alabama (GSC) this evening by a score of 8--7. A report will follow--probably tomorrow. Another nationally ranked team loses its opener, but in this case to another team of national ranking. here is the report on the game:

Early PSAC Scores for Saturday Sept 2

Assumption of the Northeast 10 edged Kutztown 31--28 on a last minute field goal. Golden Bears played a ranked team tough!

Gannon 55 Southern Connecticut 22. Darned good effort by Gannon!

St. Francis 69 Lock Haven 3! Can you imagine? Mind boggling!

Stonehill 44 Bloomsburg 28. A once nationally ranked program at Bloomsburg now appears to be in a shambles.

Edinboro 30 Lake Erie 3 Nice win for the "Fightin' Scots"

Hillsdale 19 Mercyhurst 11. Closer than I thought it would be!

Slippery Rock 42 Kentucky State 21 Beware! West Chester

Shippensburg 41 American International 7 Same as usual when AIU plays a PSAC school.

Cheyney 56 Lincoln 28 Are you kidding me??!! Well!!

Bowie State 48 Seton Hill 7 Not a good result for the PSAC!

And finally! Pace beat Millersville 28--20! Another bummer result for the PSAC!

All in all, I have not been very impressed by he PSAC's performance in the first week, even though they won nine of the 16 games against some admittedly stiff opposition. IUP damned near lost, as did California. Bloomsburg was decimated. Kutztown lost a close one to nationally ranked Assumption. WCU played a lackluster foe, as did SRU. ESU got a win, but not easily. Ship dominated AIU! AIU rarely wins over a PSAC opponent. The other wins are somewhat nondescript. I don't at this time see big things happening for the PSAC, as the season culminates in the Div II playoffs. I think we will have to get our joy out of our PSAC races, as I don't foresee any team in the PSAC getting out of the Super Region One playoffs. Don't forget! We don't have the CIAA to beat up upon anymore--winston-Salem exempted from that comment. Instead we have the likes of Ohio Dominican and others from the GMAC to now contend with in the post season. Well now that all the results are in, the PSAC went 9 and 7 in the out of conference games. The PSAC East went 4--4, and the PSAC West won 5 of 8. Not really a smashing performance, and as I intimated before both California and IUP could have very readily lost. What is really of some concern is that PSAC teams lost three games to teams from the Northeast 10, which has not happened very often to the best of my knowledge--if ever. Well, it is what is is. I don't think the PSAC is as strong as it has been in recent years. Husky picked 11 of the 16 games correctly. Bloomsburg, Cheyney, East Stroudsburg, Seton Hill, and Millersville proved him to be wrong. The reader can figure out which way it went from the scores.

One the national scene in games involving two ranked teams, Husky picked three of five such games correctly. He misfired on the North Alabama--Texas A & M Commerce game and the Souix Falls--Minnesota-Duluth game. For starters, Husky has a record of 3--2 for such games. The "Winner of the Week" award goes to Souix Falls, who went into Duluth and beat higher ranked Minnesota-Duluth and came away with a big win. The "Flaming Ruins" award goes to the Huskies of Bloomsburg who lost at home to a middle-of-the pack Stonehill from the Northeast 10 by a score of 44--22. I don't think many saw this coming. We now know the Huskies are fraught with weaknesses, and will be most likely non-competitive in the PSAC East. The Huskies will be very hard pressed to win four games this year. It is a program that no longer--in just a few short years--has the ability or doesn't seem to be able to recruit enough highly talented Div II players. I suspect there are quite a few disappointed Husky alumni, fans, and supporters. If I can, I will look up some videos of this weekend's action and post them. Have a great holiday weekend! Looking forward to Week #2 in Div II football. We are just getting started! There will be some changes obviously in the national rankings, as quite a few of the Top 25 lost in Week On i think the new rankings will come out on Tuesday--both the AFCA poll and the d2football.com Poll. Time to post and start researching next week's schedule.

10 Minnesota State 1-0 16
11 Emporia State 0-1 4
12 Central Missouri 1-0 20
13 Azusa Pacific 1-0 14
14 Grand Valley 0-1 3

21 Ashland 0-1 18
22 Colorado Mesa 1-0 NR
23 Henderson State 1-0 NR
24 West Georgia 1-0 NR
25 Tuskegee 1-0 NR

All three PSAC teams advanced! Grand Valley took a major hit, as did Minnesota Duluth. Pretty lofty heights for California and IUP, when one considers both of them came very close to losing. Harding dropped out. Indianapolis in--deservedly so! Colorado Mines out
--also deservedly so. There is Winston-Salem, the pride of the CIAA, asserting themselves once again. Nice job! Feel sorry for Emporia state--a very good team--that has the misfortune of playing in the same conference as NWMSU. Ciao!

Husky's PSAC Picks for September 9

All games are crossover contests, and all the PSAC West teams are at home. Let's get to it!

Kutztown beats Mercyhurst. The Golden Bears came close to beating the best team in the Northeast 10 this past weekend.

Edinboro romps over Lock Haven! The Bald Eagles were swamped by St. Francis!

Gannon notches a close win over Shppensburg. Just look at last week's scores. It should tell you something.

Clarion at home wins over Bloomsburg! Cheer up, Husky fans! The worst is yet to come for a program that has lost its way!

California wins over Cheyney. Don't ask why!

Seton Hill at home beats Millersville. Millersville lost to Pace of the Northeast 10! Not much marauding by the Marauders!

IUP shuts down East Stroudsburg. At the end of the day, the Warriors will wish they were "back east"!

Slippery Rock edges West Chester. I like WCU, but not in this game. If I'm wrong, I'll shed no tears.

The SRU-WCU game is the obvious GAME OF THE WEEK in the PSAC! The Gannon-Shippensburg game should be competitive. IUP and ESU in another time would have been a good game, but not in these times. Stay tuned for match-ups involving two nationally ranked teams. I have not had much success finding videos of last week's action. I'll keep looking.

Games Involving Two nationally Ranked Teams

Neither poll this week has chosen as of yet to mark or indicate or highlight such games. I did a quick read through, and didn't any such games. It is, however, easy to miss something. Will check the "scores and match-ups again later today. Speaking of scores, I noticed That NWMSU had a close game last evening winning by a score of 20--14. How about that. Tough loss for the Ichabods! See following the link for details.

Scores and reports this weekend will be delayed, as I will be way from the computer. I am also having internet connection problems. Hope it gets resolved soon. Take in a PSAC or other Div II game, if possible.

Northeast 10 Scores from Last Night

Final 7:00 pm
Pace 0
Assumption 56
Final 7:00 pm
Saint Anselm 14
Bentley 50+

Pace beat Millersville last week, and WCU crushed Bentley. Assumption edged Kutztown by a field goal. Comparative scores are often deemed to be of slight significance, but one can draw his own conclusions from the above scores as he sees fit.

First OFF

There were no games involving two nationally ranked teams. So my record for picking such games remains at 3-2. Now let us move on to the PSAC results. Here we go with my comments:

Edinboro 20 Lock Haven 3 Amazed it was so close!

Kutztown 21 Mercyhurst 16 Golden Bears must have been hibernating, but they won!

Shippensburg 41 Gannon 33 Red Raiders are good!

Bloomsburg 29 Clarion This win is a mirage. The Huskies will lose more games than they win!

Millersville 45 Seton Hill 38 How bad is Seton Hill to lose at home to Millersville who lost to Pace--the Northeast 10 doormat?

IUP 38 East Stroudsburg 14 Was there another expected refrain?

California 54 Cheyney 14 Glad to see the Wolves scored two TD's!

Slippery Rock 49 West Chester 42 Golden Rams get a reality check! You don't give up 49 points and expect to win!

Was glad to see my Bloomsburg Huskies win, but it might be only a mirage; but a win is a win. We'll take it! Some tough opponents are about to come, as the Huskies delve deeper into their schedule. West Chester giving up 49 points to SRU is just simply not getting it done on "D". This tells me WCU might not belong in the post season! They MIGHT win the PSAC East, but they will probably not win the overall PSAC. Am amazed Millersviile knocked off Seton Hill, but that is good. I am thinking Cheyney's new offensive scheme might be a good thing. The rest is obvious! The PSAC West is far superior to the PSAC East! Husky picked 5 of the 8 games correctly. He missed the mark on the Bloomsburg- Clarion, Shippensburg-Gannon, and the Millersville- Seton Hill games. His record is now 16--8. Not much more to say! It was not an eventful weekend. Or wasn't it? Millersville won, Lock Haven didn't get humiliated, and Bloomsburg put off the the emergence of a lackluster, losing football program.
That's all for now!
