In my opinion, this will increase the degree of difficulty for PSAC teams to reach the national semis. Just my opinion.

There are a number of games in this opening week's Div II action involving two nationally ranked teams. I'll get to them by midweek.

Games Involving Two Nationally Ranked Teams in the First Week of Division II Play

Correction! Four of these games are Thursday evening. North Alabama and Texas A & M Commerce play Friday night.

Ashland #18 of the GLIAC visits # 9 IUP of the PSAC, #15 Souix Falls visits #8 Minnesota-Duluth--both teams in the NSIC,

#6 Texas A & M Commerce of the LSC travels to #5 North Alabama of the GSC, #21 Colorado Mines visits #12 CSU Pueblo--both teams in

the RMAC, and #4 Emporia State encounters #1 Northwest Missouri State in Marysville--both teams being MIAA powers. So there are

several conference showdowns in the very first week of the season! I see the following teams coming out on top: IUP, Minnesota-Duluth,

North Alabama, CSU Pueblo, and Northwest Missouri State. It is a bit unusual to have these several conference games of this level

and importance being played so early in the season. I think we are now ready to get the 2017 Div II season started. I hope to be at

West Chester to take in the WCU-Bentley game. I also hope to be at Bloomsburg Saturday for the Bloomsburg-Stonehill game. If you

can, take in a Div II game somewhere in your area! See you Thursday evening--late! Ciao!

IUP just defeated Ashland 26--23 with a field goal on the last play of the game. Big win for IUP. I said it would not be easy, and it certainly wasn't! More details later. Out at West Chester, the Golden Rams crushed Bentley 51--9. Long way for the Falcons to travel to absorb such a pasting. After a game opening drive that led to a Bentley field goal, WCU pretty much did what they pleased, whether it was the ground game or the passing game.

Div II Scores, Thursday Evening, August 31

PSAC

Tennessee Martin had little trouble with Clarion winning by a score of 36--0, West Chester did as it pleased against Bentley crushing the Falcons 51--9, California edged Ohio Dominican in a very competitive game 36--34, East Stroudsburg won on the road against the MEC's Fairmont 20--16, and IUP with a last second field goal escaped with a win over the GLIAC's Ashland 26--23. As I had earlier indicated, the PSAC faced some stiff challenges in this opening week, and such was the case last evening. The only team who had an easy time of it was West Chester, who rolled over Bentley of the Northeast 10. I will have some game reports later on today. More action on Saturday!

Nationwide

On the national scene involving games between two nationally ranked teams, #15 Souix Falls defeated #7 Minnesota-Duluth on the road in NSIC conference play by a score of 25--7, in the RMAC #12 CSU Pueblo handled #21 Colorado Mines 38--7, in the MIAA #1 Northwest Missouri State and perennial power shut out #4 Emporia State 34--0, and as mentioned earlier the PSAC's #9 IUP eked out a win over #18 Ashland of the GLIAC by a score of 26--23--thanks to a field goal on the last play of the game. Tonight's game between North Alabama and Texas A & M Commerce features two more nationally ranked teams going at it.

Incidentally, I forget to say so; but this was the "game of the week" in the PSAC. I will make that/those designation(s) in my future postings of scheduling and/or results. Just getting back into things!
