Bearcats Shut Out Harding

http://www.bearcatsports.com/news/2016/ ... rding.aspx

The score says it all. The Bearcats' defense shut down Harding's rushing game to the extent that they couldn't score. No surprise! Look at the stats! And I was wrong! The game was not anywhere near being close.

Nest Week's Div II National Semifinals

North Alabama at Shepherd

Ferris State at Northwest Missouri State

More details to follow. One game has some intrigue about it, the other seems to be a "no brainer". Incidentally, Husky scooped a number of Div II gurus on two picks--Shepherd versus Cal and Ferris State versus Grand Valley. On the other two picks, we agreed. Just saying, gut feelings sometimes are right in opposition to all other would be determining factors. I was convinced Cal could not handle Shepherd's Brown, and I figured GVSU's defense was not up to it against Ferris State for a second win over the Bulldogs. More to come as the days progress, although there is really not that much to say, as the field of teams has been greatly narrowed. Will be interesting to see how the Lions of North Alabama handle a trip up to WV in the northern hinterlands . Very unfamiliar territory for them. I like seeing a one good team having to play out of its element against another good team in its own environs. Heap big advantage?? We will see!!

If I was not clear about it, I am picking the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State to defeat the Bulldogs of Ferris State in the one Div II national semifinal, and I am going with the Rams of Shepherd to beat the visiting Lions of North Alabama in the other semifinal encounter. Looking forward to both games.

I don't have much info from Shepherd as of now. Both games will be on ESPN3. It is my understanding the Shepherd-North Alabama kickoff time is 12:00 noon EST.
I also have been made to understand that the kickoff time for NWMSU-Ferris State games is 3:30 PM EST/2:30 CST. Check listing to confirm times. There will also be radio coverage for both games. Check the teams' websites for further info. More to follow.

Husky, yes.. Pittsburg State giving up 69 points to NW Missouri State.. I knew Gorillas' defense
was not good because they gave up 54 points to Ft. Hays a couple weeks before. End of an era?
Even last year when they weren't good they still played defense.

Bearcats will defeat Ferris State easily.. don't know anything about the other teams. Years
ago I saw North Alabama at Missouri State.. they wore yellow Detroit Lions helmets

Thanks, Ollie! I always enjoy your comments. Looking forward to Saturday. I feel so fortunate to be able to do my thing once again for an entire season. Thanks to all of my viewers. Am now closer to 80 than 70, but I am hanging in there and trying to get the most out of life. Love Div II football!

1st Div II Semifinal

North Alabama 23
Shepherd 13

Very disappointing performance by Shepherd IMHO. It's not that they lost, but rather how they allowed themselves to be diverted from their strengths and took any number of crucial penalties. On the other hand, the great coaching of Bobby Wallace and staff was obviously instrumental in the Lions' defense being able to subdue the offense of Shepherd. A great effort by the Lions of UNA. More later. The Lions are off to Kansas City. The second semi should already be underway. Here is the game report off the UNA football website:

http://www.roarlions.com/news/2016/12/1 ... -game.aspx

The stats are all in favor of North Alabama, but a number of crucial illegal linemen down the field penalties against the Rams greatly altered the stats. I might add that the UNA QB Tucker was simply super, and he played the kind of game a team needs to win at this level in the Div II playoffs. Congrats to the UNA Lions.

NWMSU Defeats Ferris State 35--20 to Reach Div II National Finals

Not an easy win for the Bearcats who sustained a couple of injuries to a couple of key players. Congratulations to the Bearcats. A stalwart opponent in UNA awaits them in next week's final. Here is the game report from the NWMSU football website. More about those injuries as the week progresses.

Husky picked one of the two semifinals correctly. He was right with his pick of NWMSU, but he misfired on the Shepherd--UNA pick. His record for the playoffs is now 19--7. Not too bad, but one could do better. Husky is not revealing his pick for the final, until he finds out the severity of the injuries the Bearcats have incurred. Not much more to say at this juncture. Once again, I appreciate all the views; as I have tried throughout the season to wrap up all of the activity in the PSAC and Div II into one neat package throughout the year. Hope many of you viewers have found it worthwhile to look in from time to time. Incidentally, the winner of the week award goes to North Alabama for the Lions' all-around super, on-the-road effort against a really good Shepherd team. The Lions made Husky a believer! NWMSU is in for a tough game next Saturday! Have a great week, get all your shopping done, put up that tree, and go see a high school or college wrestling match--if you have a time to do so.

After reading quite a bit about both the Lions of North Alabama and the Bearcats of NWMSU with respect to the impending Div II NC game on Saturday, I am still going with the Bearcats to win this game in spite of their number of incurred injuries in the game with Ferris State. I do think the game should be quite competitive and nothing approaching being one-sided. Game is on ESPN2. No computer watching this weekend. Further inspiration for the Bearcats might also be the possible departure of Coach Dorrel for Abilene Christian, who would then be coaching his last game for the Bearcats. One thing at a time, however.

Guess we will see if any "holes" are to be found in the Bearcats' defense.
