The Pens traded Ryan Whitney to the Ducks for a winger Chris Kunitz and prospect (Eric Tangradi).

I like it because I am not a big Whitney fan although they might regret this when Gonchar is gone.

I really like the trade. Kunitz is not a rental player, he is with us until 2012 (at a smaller cap hit than Whitney), and he can score goals. Also, this prospect we got is tearing up the OHL...second in scoring, and he projects to be a really big power forward, which probably automatically moves him to the top of our depth chart at Wilkes Barre.

As for Whitney, I won't cry over losing him. I think he was better than he had played going back the past year or so, but I am not certain he ever would have lived up to his contract here...a change of scenery might have been necessary. Even when we lose Gonch, we have 2 young offensive defensemen in Letang and Gogo, Brooks is signed for a few years, and defensive defensemen such as Eaton are a dime a dozen, so we shouldn't have any problem filling the blue line.

The real question is whether Kunitz comes over and lives up to his billing a la Sykora, or disappoints a la Satan.
