isn't it great to root for a team like the Pens?

Compare the 1993-2008 draft picks by the Pens and Bucs, the answer lies in those names. While the Pens are drafting Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury as top 2 picks... Pirates are drafting Moskos, Van Benshoten, Bullington, etc.

Eric-

That 3rd period last night was one of the most exciting I can remember over the past few years. So exciting that my friend's wife went into labor!!

But your point about the drafts is an interesting one. Obviously the Pirates have drafted poorly and the Pens have drafted well (and gotten extremely lucky in a certain lottery). And while hockey isn't like the NFL draft in that most players do not go straight to the pros, it isn't quite as bad as baseball where nearly every kid you draft is 3+ years away (at least in the first round). Not to mention all the screwups the Bucs have had outside of the draft...so I think its oversimplified to just blame drafting.

Drafting Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Fluery is easy when you have a rookie cap to work with. Does anyone really believe that the Pirates wouldn't change their approach if you had a rookie cap and Bora's meant nothing?
