I have had more views this year than in any previous football season. Thanks for the interest. Never dreamed I would be approaching 4000 views. Go, Crimson Hawks!! Put yourselves and the PSAC back in the Division II national final!!

IUP Loses Div II National Semi-Final

For a team that seemed to have everything going for itself, some chinks in the armor started to appear last week when the Crimson Hawks of IUP barely escaped with the win over greatly under underrated Assumption of the Northeast 10 Conference. Today IUP met a team in West Florida who plays in the Gulf South Conference, which over the years has distinguished itself as being superior to any and all comers from the PSAC. I guess it should have been no surprise IUP went down today to the Argonauts of West Florida, as the Crimson Hawks were simply upon against a team from a better conference with more talent, more perseverance, and and ability to not make crucial errors. IUP had it all going for itself. They were the home team, they were used to playing in cold weather, they had the crowd behind them; but they could not stand up to the superior talent and consistency of West Florida. Not only that, IUP had to play an almost perfect game today; which they did not do. They had nary a penalty (WF was flagged for quite a few yard!), had little or no pass rush, their secondary was over matched by West Florida's receivers, the Argonauts won the battle at the line of scrimmage, IUP had no answer for the Argonauts' running back Schwarz, and IUP QB Lennie Williams inexplicably fumbled away three perfectly executed snaps from the IUP center and thereby snuffed out the IUP offense at crucial times. The score of 27--17 is deceiving. West Florida outplayed IUP by far more than the score reflects. West Florida earned the win. Congratulations to the Argonauts and best wishes to them in the Div II national final. As a PSAC fan, I am quite disappointed in today's outcome; however, I would be remiss if I did not extend my heartiest congratulations to the Crimson Hawks of IUP for having such a great season. They went down trying to do their best. We PSAC fans will now once again have to wait another year before we might see one of our own in the Div II national final. It is a bitter pill to swallow. I thought this year's IUPers would make it to KC. Guess I was wrong, but I still love the PSAC and will be looking forward to next season. And yes! We still have to see who West Florida will be playing in the national final, as Harding takes on Texas A & M Commerce. this is also a very intriguing game! A game report later!

Texas A & M Commerce Advances ti the Div II National Finals

TAMUC defeated Harding of the GAC 31--17 to advance to the Div II national final against West Florida next weekend in Kansas City. A report later! Both TAMUC and Harding hoped to advance Cinderella stories, but it was the Lions who won out and will be in the big dance at KC. An entirely different look to the Div II national final is in the offing next weekend.

Husky picked one of the two national semifinal games correctly. He hit the mark with his pick of TAMUC over Harding, but misfired on picking IUP over West Florida! His playoff record now languishes at a rather poor 12--14. Lastly, CONGRATULATIONS are in order for the accomplishments of Texas A & M Commerce (LSC) and West Florida (GSC) for reaching the Division II national final which will be played next Saturday in Kansas city, MO AND will be telecast on ESPN II. Kudos also to ALL the teams who qualified for the Division II national tournament. They all gave it their best shots before bowing out! More details on the next Saturday's coverage later. Can't believe we are almost at the end of another Div II season. As always, it has been a great ride--sometimes in person as at West Chester or Bloomsburg or elsewhere, or by radio broadcasts, or by viewing a countless number of games on ESPN3 or on the individual teams' websites. Thanks for your views and support. Don't know yet who Husky will pick to win the national championship. Husky has not had a very stellar record this year in picking playoff games. I must say! Who would have thought at the beginning of the season we would be seeing Texas A & M Commerce and West Florida clashing in Kansas City next Saturday for national laurels. If I may use an old cliche': "That's why they play the games!!" Ciao!!

THANKS

Wow! I just jumped from 3900 plus views to over 4100 views, and that is before today's championship game in KC between West Florida and Texas A & M Commerce! "Husky"--that's me--is honored and humbled by so many Div II fans checking in on my posts and commentary. Do I feel good about all of this? Yes, I do!! I feel the bulk of my support comes from western PA, as my coverage is on the following website:http://www.pittsburghsports.net/ under "Other Sports". My thanks to the webmaster for allowing me to do my thing for quite a few years now. I hope all of this flies in the face of the Philaphans website people who saw fit to ban me from their website some years ago for no justifiable reason whatsoever. My only intent was, and still is, to give recognition and coverage to the Div II football athletes most of whom will after graduation be moving on to other pursuits outside of the realm of football. It has once again been a great ride in 2017. I am already looking forward to the 2018 Div II season; but, of course, in the interim there is my love for high school and college wrestling which will keep me busy throughout the Winter Thanks for abiding my enthusiasm and admitted effusiveness when it comes to my love of Div II football. And I would be remiss, if i did not express my thanks to ESPN3 for their computer streaming of so many Div II games from all over the country every Fall weekend. I will be posting this message to my friends per E-Mail.

TAMUC Lions Win Div II National Title over west Florida 34--27!

Led by their Harlon Hill Trophy winning quarterback Luis Perez, the Lions of Texas A & M Commerce put the icing on the cake by defeating the Argonauts of West Florida to win their first ever Division II national championship in football. Congratulations to the Lions of TAMUC and also to West Florida for their great post season performance! More to follow.

As of yet, there is no game report on the TAMUC football website. Maybe later today. I'll do some of my own commentary later today or tomorrow and then wrap things up for the 2017 season.

A Deserving Texas A & M Commerce

Here is a team that from the get-go was ranked in the Top 5. They did lose one game on October 5th to Midwestern State by a score of 47--42. The Lions for the most part played well all year, but seemed to remain under the radar. As mentioned, they did suffer that mid-season loss to Midwestern State, but anybody can lose to the Mustangs in their stadium on a given night. That is Texas football at its best. What impresses me is that TAMUC went on the road in the post season and beat Central Washington under difficult conditions (Central Washington was picked by some who are quite knowledgeable to win it all--not me), then they went to up to Winona and dominated in the round of 16, then came a second trip up to Minnesota to play Minnesota State-Mankato (another team picked by many to win it all--including me) and Lions also handled them, then they finally got a home game in the national semis and subdued a troublesome Harding team with its triple option run offense which is something nobody else could do in the post season. In the national final against a fine West Florida team, one only needs to the read the stats and recap to see that TAMUC did indeed dominate. That is not to say the Argonauts did not have their moments, but the Lions were the better team and came up big when needed. In summation, I would say Texas A & M Commerce is indeed a worthy Division II national champion, and it is indeed refreshing to see a new face crowned as Div II national champ. My sincere congratulations to the Lions of Texas A & M Commerce and the same to the young program at West Florida. Lastly, I wish to express my gratitude for being allowed to do my thing on this website, and I wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you don't celebrate Christmas, then I wish you the happiest of holidays within the realm of of your beliefs or your religious persuasion. Lastly, I hope to be back doing it all once again come next August. I'd be lost, if I did not! Love Div II football! I wish all good health and prosperity in 2018!

Husky
