First Final Score of the Day

In Super Region III, #7 seed Harding (GAC) continued its late season magic by defeating #3 seed Ashland (GLIAC) by a score of 34--24. Harding will now move on to play the winner of the Fort Hays State--Ferris State game which started about 45 minutes ago. #1 IUP in Super region I is also well on its to advancing as the Crimson Hawks were leading #5 seed West Chester 44--7 the last I checked. Update! IUP (PSAC) won 44--10 over West Chester (PSAC). In Super Region II, #6 seed West Florida (GSC) edged #7 seed West Georgia (GSC) 17--14. In Super Region IV, #2 seed Minnesota State Mankato (NSIC) crushed #3 seed Midwestern State (LSC) 63--21. In Super region I, #3 seed Assumption (NE10) beat #7 Findlay (GMAC) 45--26. Assumption now moves on and plays at IUP next Saturday for the SR I championship. In Super Region II, #1 seed West Alabama (GSC) defeated #5 seed Delta State (GSC) 27--20. West Alabama will now host West Florida next Saturday for the SRII championship. #1 seed Central Washington in Super Region IV is currently leading #5 seed Texas A & M Commerce 28--7 in the second quarter. Last I checked #4 Ferris State was leading #1 Fort Hays State 17--7 in the third quarter in Super Region III action. #4 seed Ferris State (GLIAC) in Super Region III beat #1 seed Fort Hays State (MIAA) 31--21. Ferris State will now host Harding in the SR III championship next Saturday. #5 seed Texas A & M Commerce (LSC) defeated #1 seed Central Washington (GNAC) 34--31 in 2 OTs in Super Region IV action by a score of 34--31. Texas A & M Commerce will now meet Minnesota State in Mankato for the SR IV championship next Saturday. There is only one conference with two teams remaining in the playoffs--that being the GSC with West Alabama and West Florida still alive. Congratulations to all of today's participants on having such stellar seasons. Will be back shortly. Husky picked four of the eight games correctly to keep his record at 10 up and 10 down.

Some Further Commentary

Two #1 seeds won today--IUP and West . #1 seeds Fort Hays State and Central Washington lost. Minnesota State Mankato is the only #2 seed left in the competition. There is only one #3 seed still standing--that being Assumption of the Northeast 10. Ferris state is the only #4 seed still in the running. Texas A & M Commerce with two road wins is still alive as a #5 seed. West Florida, a #6 seed will still be playing next weekend. Harding out of the GAC and a # 7 seed will also be competing next weekend for an SR championship. Four of the lower seeds won four of the eight games today. The match-up for next weekend's four SR championship games (also the national quarterfinals) are as follows:

Super Region I Assumption (3) (NE10) at IUP (1) (PSAC)

Super Region II West Florida (6) (GSC) at West Alabama (1) (GSC)

Super Region III Harding (7) (GAC) at Ferris State (4) (GLIAC)

Super Region IV Texas A & M Commerce (5) (LSC) at Minnesota State Mankato (2) (NSIC)

Some Commentary

I don't think any of us expected West Chester to come away with a win at IUP this past weekend, but nor did we expect the Golden Rams to get manhandled as they did. Not a stellar performance by the Golden Rams. It must have been a long bus ride home to West Chester. Then again, it was close to 30 football scholarships against a bit over 10 football scholarships. It is hard to comprehend how such an inequity is allowed to continue by the ADs and administrations of the PSAC East members. If you ask them--the powers that be-- about this inequity, one simply is "stonewalled"! Well, enough of that. Let's move on. Assumption has proved its mettle. I mentioned early on that the Greyhounds would be a team to reckon with. Guess I was right, I think they will be overpowered by IUP!

Down south in SR II, I think it is clear that this Super Region is dominated by the GSC. It is no surprise that the four teams left standing this weekend were all from the GSC. I also think it is clear that West Alabama is going to be in the national semis after beating Delta State.

In SR III, I was surprised that Ashland lost to Harding, BUT I do think Harding has been greatly underrated by many who accuse them of running a triple option "high school" offense. Well , guess what? Two of Harding's TDs against Ashland came by way of the pass. I think Ferris State with QB Bell leading the way will be too much for Harding, because I don't think Harding has the defense to sufficiently stop FSU's high power offense. Harding WILL, however, make it interesting.

Lastly, in SR IV, it is abundantly clear that Minnesota State Mankato is a monster which even highly traveled TAMUCO will not be able to subdue, The Mavericks in my mind are the favorite to win it ALL! Sorry, IUP fans. Guess we will see within several weeks.

Div II Playoff Scores--SR Championship Games (National QFS)

December 2nd, 2017 Scoreboard
*All Games Eastern Standard Time (EST)
Final 12:00 pm
Harding 16
Ferris State (6) 14
Final 12:00 pm
Assumption (15) 22
IUP (1) 27
Final 1:00 pm
Texas A&M-Commerce (8) 31
Minnesota State (2) 21
Final 1:00 pm
West Florida 28
West Alabama (17) 21

National Semi-Finalists:

Harding (GAC--#7 seed in SR III)

IUP (PSAC--#1 seed in SR I)

Texas A & M Commerce (LSC--#5 seed in SR IV)

West Florida (GSC--#6 seed in SR II)

I would assume that Harding will meet IUP, and West Florida will meet Texas A & M Commerce, as it is my understanding that teams reaching the national semifinals will be seeded. I would also guess that the higher seed gets home field advantage. Somebody please correct me, if I am wrong. Well, i have just been informed that I am indeed wrong. Harding (GAC) will be meeting Texas A & M Commerce (LSC) down in Texas. West Florida (GSC) will take on IUP of the PSAC. Not sure where the game will be played, but i would guess at IUP in the western hill country of Pennsylvania.

Husky picked only 1 of the 4 SR championship games correctly. He correctly picked IUP to beat Assumption, but misfired on the other three. Husky's playoff record is now 11 up and 13 down for a rather unimpressive record. In the national semis, Husky is picking IUP to defeat West Florida and Texas A & M Commerce over Harding. Nothing else at this time. Will get back to you all, if something of interest comes up. Have heard tell, both games will be on ESPN3. Hope you are all enjoying the journey through the Division II championship playoffs.
