Well, it's that time of year, and given that my UVa Cavaliers have waaaaay outperformed this season, it's even more interesting for me than normal.

And as this time rolls around, I am prone to pour over what for me is the greatest box score ever: Villanova's win over Georgetown in the 1985 final.

Nova had already played the Hoyas three times that year and on the greatest stage, they played a darn near perfect game. They made 22 of 28 from the field and were 22 of 27 from the foul line. That is a total of 11 misses. For the entire game. And coke head Gary McLain played all 40 minutes versus one of the greatest pressure defenses in NCAA history, and had only 2 turnovers. 2!!! Subs for both teams combined for a total of 28 minutes. It is as amazing to think about as it was to watch live. Probably the greatest single team performance that I've witnessed.

The tourney is thoroughly enjoyable as always, but I do tire of the same 'big schools' advancing.

It's annoying to see the same 5-10 teams and it doesn't help when the selection committee 'particularizes' brackets.

That's not just 'sour grapes' because Wichita State lost---they played GREAT---it's genuine awareness of perceived vs. actual 'parity'.

It's great to see teams like Dayton sneak into the Sweet 16, but the same teams make the Elite 8/Final Four every year. There's a short list.

We remember the VCUs and George Masons because they're the exception to the rule, not the rule itself.

Still, another great tourney thus far. Been some great games!

I think it's the best sporting event out there overall. And yes the same teams end up winning, but isn't that really the truth in all sports?

Thank God there are scrappers like them this year to oust the major schools!

Oh, it's certainly the best.

It's merely funny how we accept the narrative that it's filled with 'parity' when in actuality most of that parity occurs in the first two rounds while the last three are still primarily dominated by the usual suspects (UNC, Duke, Kansas, UK, FLA, UCLA, AZ, Louisville, OSU, MSU...).

But those teams also lose on occasion early which is part of the attraction.

Like I said, the appeal of seeing a 'Goliath' lose even though a 'Goliath' often/ultimately wins the final is what's so funny about the appeal. We accept a temporary parity despite an overall lack thereof.

The tourney is great and I hope the UVAs, ISUs and Creightons knock off as many more 'Goliaths' as they can. It's those fleeting victories which are the most memorable and enjoyable.

Easily the best American sporting event. There's nothing better than a win or go home tournament. Yeah, the better teams do win out. Generally. But you have to play the games. There are no do-overs. And we can be secure in the knowledge, as fans, that every team that wins at least deserved it.

Especially since the NCAA doesn't promote parity at all. The crappy teams don't get first crack at the best talent, so you have the bluebloods cleaning up on the trail and the rest of the schools hoping to cobble together a run or two with the leftovers before their coach gets snapped up by a better school.

Or you could go all UNLV/Scott Drew/Frank Haith and buy your way to talent.

Also, it's been a blast watching Shabazz Napier reincarnate Kemba Walker. I don't know what will happen with UConn going forward, they don't have a frosh year Napier type on their roster now, but he's given them a hell of a year. Still think Florida wins it all but seeing the Harrison twins "get it" and Napier play a capable version of Kobe-Bryant-in-4th-Quarter-Ball has been great. Plus Bo Ryan is just an incredible coach.

Well I got two out of four right. I had UCLA, Michigan State, Arizona, and Kentucky in my final four..

Two former Missouri State Bears coaches had great seasons.. Cuonzo Martin at Tennessee and Steve Alford at UCLA.

Only one Ollie. Kentucky is in but not the other three.
