I'm just curious as to what University each member considers his/her favorite. This could be the college you attended or the school you root for. Myself, I attended the University of South Dakota (I wanted to play baseball in college) but will always consider Iowa State my favorite.

I have a couple of stipulations for this thread.

1. Pick one school. I don't want some crap like "I love Notre Dame football but I follow Duke basketball". That doesn't fly with me.

2. Don't reply to anyone's pick. I don't want the thread to become a mess. I want it easy to navigate. Only post once. If you want to make changes to your post simply edit your original.

I'll start with the next post...

Iowa State Cyclones

I have been going to games in Ames since I can remember. I've been to games where there might have been 15,000 fans. During my youth in the 80s and into the 90s it wasn't exactly cool to be an Iowa State fan.

Things started to turn around in the late 90s with the hiring of Dan McCarney and two-time Heisman finalist Troy Davis.

Current head coach Paul Rhoads is making it exciting in Ames and will hopefully lead the Cyclones to heights never seen in Ames.

Iowa State basketball has had some great years with "Hilton Magic" and appear to be heading in the right direction under "The Mayor" Fred Hoiberg.

This has the feel of a 5th grade project

Grew up a Pitt football fan and a Georgetown basketball fan. Decided to attend Syracuse. Bled Orange ever since. Graduated in 1990.

Grew up near Penn St, went to Duke, there's a clear split there. I am much more serious about Duke basketball than CFB.

PS - I also went to Youngstown St during the Tressel years, that Pitt game was so enjoyable.

Grew up in the heartland of the ACC, so became a huge ACC basketball fan because of David Thompson alone. Then the Big East was formed and it was also in the neighborhood. Almost by accident I went to UVa, catching the last two years of the Ralph Sampson era and witnessed the first year of the Coach K era. So, basketball was, is, king, and while UVa football has sucked for years, it still is the first score I look for on the weekend.

I'm all about Syracuse as well. My dad went there and for as long as I can remember I've had Syracuse gear. Being a Syracuse football fan is somewhat like being a Pirates fan but the basketball and lacrosse teams are really fun to watch. It's also cool seeing 30000+ in the dome for a basketball game.

I went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania but became a fan of Pitt basketball shortly thereafter. That's tops for me when it comes to college sports. I also root for them in football but don't really care much about it. I spend my fall Saturdays in the woods.

Big one against Kentucky tonight, a thin Duke club against a very young Wildcat team (what else is new). Losing Rivers and Dawkins just undercut them and they already lacked much inside. I miss the days of actual quality NCAA hoops teams.

For the record of this thread, and to break IA's rules...I'm a huge USC Trojan football fan(since I was 8). I loved the horse, the crazy band uniforms, and the uniforms. Just stuck with them. In hoops I am a huge Louisville Cardinals fan. Started watching basketball a few years later and loved the Darrell Griffith led Cards that dunked more than any other team back then...and loved the bright red uniforms!

In reply to you Dopers...one thing I am not a fan of is starting the season so early. The teams you watch tonight will be so much different than the teams you watch in March. I watched Louisville Sunday, and I know they didn't look like a #2 team...then I reminded myself it isn't even Thanksgiving yet! And I think there are quality teams, but the game has changed so much from what we were used to watching...IMO. Duke always had enough athletic guys to go with their other guys...they don't seem to have that lately. As a Louisville fan, I hope you crush that bum Calipari and his Wildcats!!

Duke's playing some "quality NCAA hoops" so far this year. They certainly don't look thin or depleted. Can't wait for March!

The huge step forward from Mason Plumlee was not expected. I'm as happy as can be with the three huge wins on the resume already and a soft ACC. Duke is thin upfront, if Plumlee or Kelly get in any foul trouble it gets shaky quick. K is only giving 6 guys more than 10 minutes a game. I was expecting more from Josh Hairston by now.
