In my 30-team dynasty keepers league our Trade Deadline ends Sunday and so a few teams are trying to unload established players for prospects.

BJ Upton is on the market and I could potentially land him.

Would you trade for him or do you think he's maxed his potential? (I think it's clear he's no Ken Griffey Jr, but he still has more than enough ability to be a legit top-5 CF in the league)

I would have to give up Rajai Davis for him or a package deal of 'prospects' (Michael Brantley and Matt Joyce), but do you think it would be worth it?

I'm not fond of Rajai at all, despite his speed and while BJ isn't a sure thing (great speed, terrible BA, lots of K's, marginal run production), he's an instant upgrade from Brantley and/or Joyce.

My gut's telling me to go after Upton, but I don't think I'm intelligent enough to know if he's worth two 'prospects' (even though Brantley and Joyce aren't dynamite, they have shown flashes of brilliance, Joyce especially of late) or Rajai, who is playing better overall... however long that will last...

How say you, attempt a deal or walk away?

Go for it. Upton has more potential than he's shown. I would not want to depend on Rajai Davis next year.

NS ... here is my thinking.

Upton has value over Davis only in terms of HR production. As for SB's, runs, and OBP/average, Davis is equal to Upton.

So the question is, "Will Brantley develop into a solid leadoff guy with plus SB's and runs, or will Joyce become a dependable power hitter for Tampa?"

If "yes" to either question, then the deal is not one that helps your team.

Hmm... *rubs chin*

So it sounds like even despite Upton's off season (or two in a row if you count last year) both of you think it just might be an aberration.

Alright.

Thanks

Ah, I also forgot the other 1/2 of the reason why I want to add Upton:

I have an offer of Rajai for Ruben Tejada (who I have been told is the Mets future 2B).

I don't like or follow the Mets and I feel like I could get more for Rajai.

Who is Tejada and is he worth acquiring?

That trade is very good for you, Upton in an off year hits 15HR and steal 40 bases plus a pile of runs/RBI. Davis is nearly worthless, he won't be a regular anywhere and the two "prospects" are older low ceiling guys. Upton hasn't even hit his prime yet at 25, still.

As a good rule of thumb, whenevre you are getting the best player in a trade you win, in this case you are getting a legit top 20 OF with many good years in fron of him for marginal players.
