What a beautiful day to go to PNC and see the Pirates win. Sun was warm, breeze was great and WOW what a fun game.

Early in the game, Milledge positiined himself way over toward center -- my angle was poor because of seats along the left field line. I compained to my friends only to look the fool when Milledge made a great play running full out toward the gap at the notch. Great play- but would not of hapened with him more toward the line.

Later in the game Jones made a great catch diving on a low liner in right.

Infield was ok but not great, but solid at all positions.

Duke pitched fine and seettled down after a slow start put us behind by 2, threw about 80 pitches and was in control after early trouble. Dotel, Donnelly, and Meek all looked good but other RP were weak.

Offense was the exciting part of the game for us. people were noisy when Jones did his thing twice, first one was gone as soon as he hit it. Douimit's HR was after he hit what looked like a double down the line only to have it called foul late. Next pitch made the place explode. Cutch almost hit one out -- a foot higher-- and Milledge , and Church both doubled in runs. It was nice to see and be surprised by so much offense.

Big, happy crowd left smiling and I'm sure they were planning to return. It was a very good experience today.

Thanks for the report. That must have been fun.

I listened on-line but am going to watch the game on the DVR soon.

It sounded great, and I'm glad this happened on a great day. The Pirates need some breaks to gain some momentum w/ the masses.

Thanks, Sub. I am envious and wished I was at PNC today

A great game indeed. Thanks Sub. I enjoyed every second.

What I especially liked (besides all of the hits and runs) was the way the Bucs went about their approach. They were patient at the plate and many of their hits were to the opposite field. I loved that. :D

PS:

I really feel the key to success will be the offense. If they can put runs up on the board, it will take a great deal of pressure off of the starting pitchers. They will then be able to relax and really come into their own as a staring pitching staff.

So much for fans not being interested, it was the 4th largest crowd in PNC History...

Clement had some good at bats. He is an extremely patient hitter, and impressed me as a guy with very good knowledge of the strike zone. He also hit the ball on the nose a couple of times.

I hope he gets off to a solid start so that he does not press.

Yes, some good ABs indeed. I was so nervous on that foul pop late in the game, but he made it look easy.

I got nervous for just a second too doug buth then I remembered that he was a 1st rounder at catcher and if anyone could handle a high pop it certainly should be an ex-catcher. Damn PG has my head all screwy about Clement and his defense. Damn I know better...

He misplayed one in Philly badly. It landed 8 feet behind him. I don't think he was used to chasing one from that angle. He overran it and it came back on him.

I have to say, I am more concerned with Iwamura's defense right now. The Garrett Anderson single should have been gobbled up for an out. He looks like he has the range of Joe Morgan ... the current Joe Morgan.

He was there, the ball did a small hop under the glove. I did not see him not get to any ball yesterday that Freddy somehow would have gotten.

It looked like Iwamura was running in a full sprint to try and get to the ball ... which was 20' away from second base.
