I like the Rays story but I have to pull for the NL in the World Series. I'm not from Pennsylvania so I don't have a rivalry hatred with Philadelphia.

Rooting for the Rays. Downtrodden team drafts well, stocks good young talent, goes from last to first, punks the defending champions.

What's not to like?

Just think....Dave Littlefield helped both of these teams make it to the World Series

Tampa Bay with BJ Upton...

and Philly with Ryan Howard...

Someday, as the Orioles are preparing for postseason play with Matt Wieters anchoring their lineup, this thought will be repeated.

Wieters is one thing. The Orioles front office ever putting together a supporting cast to be in a position to prepare for postseason play is quite another.

I don't hate the Phillies. When I was growing up, they were the present day Pirates of their era. I always felt kind of bad for them until they got good around 1970. They were our big rivals during the 70's. That said, I am pulling for the Rays. Their manager had a brain fart during game 5 but other than that they have been superb.
Go Rays!

Their manager had a brain explosive diarrhea in game 5. As soon as the Rays pitcher (Balfour? ... what a name for a pitcher) failed to retire Pedroia, I thought that Maddon would bring in a lefty to face Ortiz. Ortiz had looked terrible against lefties in the series. He doesn't and the rest is history.

But that game taught Maddon a lesson, since he replaced pitchers like he was Tony Larussa Jr. in game 7.

Nice ... I have not been to a World Series game since 1972.

Wife was on the phone, making travel arrangements, during the beginning of the 9th inning, game 7, in 1992. I asked her to hang up the phone when I saw Randy *$#@*&$@ Marsh's strike zone.

Maddon seemed to forget that David Price was in the bullpen. Hey Joe, how did you think Price pitched in game 7. That guy is filthy.

If Tampa wins do you think EA Sports will have Maddon Baseball 09?

Rays all the way. I can't stand the Phillies or any other sports team from that city. I would like to see them sweep in 4 games with scores of 13-0 29-3 56-1 and 9183-5.

This sums it up rather nicely for me as well.

Me too. My wife got to go to Game 6 of the 2001 WS. She had a seat in the Friday'sFront Row restaurant. JR Richard was standing next to her the whole game. She was nervous because he was so drunk she thought he was going to fall on her. Understandable since he is 6'8'.

I had a friend whose mom had a stroke at an early age as well, so I have always felt bad for JR. To be so young and lose what most people take for granted. Sad. I hope he's not drowning his sorrows in drink.

Wasn't he homeless for a while and living under a freeway overpass?

I figured Chris Peters was too last year, and FSN felt bad and made him a post game commentator
