What streak would you rather the Pirates have? The current 16 straight losing seasons and counting or the Cubs 100-years without a World Series title.

I think I'd rather go a long period of time without a World Series ring than be the laughing stock of MLB with 16 straight seasons of not even having a winning record.

While the Cubs have been the butt of some jokes over the 100 years and no WS championship, at least they have the respect of being a winning team, and as far as I'm concerned, a powerhouse team over the past few years.

I'll take the Bucs, no contest.

Pirates. I'm barely old enough to remember winning in 1979. I wouldn't be willing to give that up.

Bassooon -man great to seee you back. I thought maybe you'd be returning after the season came to a merciful end. I too enjoy your ramblings and especially your creativity.

Alright, BD! Good to hear from you!

At least during their 100 years of no WS, I can think of many years they have made the playoffs or been competitive. That's what it's all about, playing October baseball or meaningful games in September. Damn, I miss that!

Since I've been alive the Pirates have won 3 Championships(too young for the 60)
It has been a blessing and to a certain degree a curse. Ever hear the expression its worst to have had had money and lost it than never ever having it at all?

Both suck, but I'd rather have some winning seasons sprinkled in and at least knowing you have a chance to win in many years than 16 years of crap.

Hard to answer this question. I was there in 1960 (really there!) and certainly recall the '71 and '79 teams. I am hoping that they Bucs win again (the WS) in my lifetime, and I'm getting older, but not old yet!! Sigh! I guess we are better off since NO Cub fans alive remember the last WS victory for the Cubs. At least some of us old codgers can recall the last three championships for our beloved Bucs! BUT, I also want us to win occasionally.....by that I mean have a winning record. Who would have thought that Sid Bream sliding across home plate in the '92 playoffs would result in no more winning seasons for the Pirates? Not me. It's the curse of Barry Bonds....and now that he's out of baseball (thank God) the curse should be soon broken. Wow, talk about balderdash!!! Go Bucs!

Once his head shrinks back to 1992 size...the curse will be lifted...

Uhhhhm ... did I go into a coma without someone telling me, and miss a Bucco championship between 1961 and present?

I celebrated the series victories in 1971 and 1979, but missed the third. Wow. I feel so deprived.

Was the parade good?

There's a fundamental difference between having a chance at winning a championship but never doing so in 100 years, and actually winning at least 3 championships within that 100 years. I'll take the Pirates 16-year losing streak if it means we still get the Buccos' titles in the 60's and 70's.

One year in the playoffs will end the Pirates run...

The Cubs have to get over the Goat, the black cat, and Bartman...They got too much pressure on them...

I'll take the 100 years since I've seen two Pirates world champion teams in my lifetime. I just want to see us be competitive again. Anyway it's not like any of us would know the 100 year hex exists and we'll all die long before it ends.

bassoon.. is it really you or did someone hack into your account? I don't recall you speaking in purple. :)

Id rather have cubs since they try to put winning teams on the field. they have a good chance of winning the world series each year and the 100plus year drought will just make it sweeter for cubs fans if they win it.

Don't forget that there have been some fairly wretched spans within the Cubs 100+ year WS drought, including a 20-season stretch (1947-1966) with only one season over .500 (and that one, 1963, only nominally at 82-80), and another 11-season run (1973 to 1983) where the best they could muster was .500 (1977).

I think, taken in sum, the Cubs' history laps the Pirates' current run at futility by a considerable margin.
