I will take Chris Gomez every day until Jack gets back. We could have someone else up who can give us something with the bat. Bixler is not ready offensively or defensively. They gave him a look. He failed. Now, get someone up who can help off the bench.

I dont think anyone on the Pirates thought he'd be here this long, Jack just cant shake that calf injury...

We'd be hurting real bad if Littlefield would have traded Jack to Detroit last summer...(not that we arent hurting now)

I think Bixler is still here because hes the only middle infielder with options...if Josh Wilson came up, he'd have to go through waivers when Jack comes back...

And you can't send Bixler down when we're playing a team with Brian Bocock. Bixler is at least better than him!

I concur. I would take Gomez over Bixler or Rivas anyday.

Jurrjens is pitching lights out for Atlanta. He was the key player in trade talks. He is 4-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 36 K's in 44 innings. He is throwing a two-seamer at 94 mph.

He would have been part of the rotation and Morris would not.

Pirates also would have known that they needed to replace Wilson. They would have had competition in spring for the position. They would not have had Bixler and Gomez playing the position.

No, we'd probably have had kept Cesar Izturis
