Should this guy be on the radar? He's only 24, hitting over .300 in AAA in 70 some at bats, and can really pick it at short. Saw him play up in Erie last month. He did the Jack Wilson flip out of his glove to get a force at second. Looked smooth. Maybe something has "clicked." He hasn't played that well all through his minor league career.

I was on a couple of the Blue jay fan boards, and many fans were upset that the Jays traded this guy! He may have some significant upside, and a team can never have enough catching, especially the Pirates with Doumit's fragile health.

Wrong player, Doc. You're thinking of Robinson Diaz. That discussion is in a different thread.

Diaz might get the call to the Majors in a few days when the rosters expand...

Some interesting discussion on that board. Sounds like they considered Diaz to be a pretty good prospect. It also seems like they are down on the trade mostly because Bautista is 3 or 4 years older than Diaz.

I say so what. It was a trade of one marginal talent for another. We got rid of a player with an attitude problem, and got a prospect in return. No big deal.

This the first I have heard that Bautista had an attitude problem. What is your source?

Quite the opposite. Bautista was a good guy, a hard worker, and professional to the hilt, as told by DK and other writers.

He just feels he can be a starter. Why does anyone have a problem with that? He got his wish, and his chance, again.

As to Cruz, all I know is that Russell has praised him on several occasions. I feel the cool wind of "transitional" shortstop coming on...

I agree with ZM regarding Bautista's attitude. He was always hustling to first on ground balls, spirited when on defense, actively talking to the pitchers and encouraging them when he was on the field, and always looked to me like a guy who enjoyed playing baseball.

In other words, the opposite of a bad attitude.

The only time his attitude changed was when he was sent to AAA...but your attitude wouldn't be cheery and happy finding you just got demoted either...

He seemed very professional while he was here, willing to do anything, just about anywhere for the team...He'd have been a nice utility guy, but probably would have been too much $$$ to keep for someone in his role and abilities
