If you wanna speculate on how it does or doesn't go down, do it in the thread. Middle-of-the-roaders, go elsewhere.

Yikes! I see Posey is supposedly going to sign for $7.5 million. He's the no. 5 pick overall.

Can I change my vote? :?

I say no. I hope I am wrong. Years of frustration has many of us thinking negatively.

MLB.com:

"Huntington said on Thursday that despite Grossman's large signing bonus, the organization still has enough money available to sign both Alvarez and Scheppers to what the Pirates believe to be reasonable bonuses."

Sounds to me like if Alvie doesn't sign, we should all blame it on Boras. Or maybe what the Pirates call "reasonable."

Reasonable for the Pirates appears to be no major league contract. That may be unreasonable by Boros' standards.

If I was a betting man, and I most certainly am not, I'd bet the offer is a minor league contract with a bonus in the neighborhood of $7 million.

Yeah he'll sign.
What's he gonna do say "Dad, sorry you are gonna have to drive a cab for another year because I need an extra million bucks. Oh and Dad if I do go back to college and blow out my knee or some other injury you may need to drive your cab forever, have fun with that."
It's a safe bet that he signs.

I say no. He won't.

And I don't care. It would be nice, but this is still a kid....he's proven nothing. Show me your good enough kid, and the money will come. But, this ain't college anymore.

As far as Schleppers goes, I don't care again. The kid has arm trouble already, and he hasn't even pitched a minor league ball game yet. I've seen enough sore armed Pirate pitchers to last a lifetime.

I think he will sign, for less money than they want, for that reason alone.

Every major league player was once "just a kid"
It's nice to have the talented kids. They turn into adults. Just add water.

I take it you think that talented major leaguers grow on trees?

I am 95% sure Alvarez will sign and I give us about 39% chance of signing Scheppers. What is really impressive is the amount of potential talent Huntington has inserted into the system over the past couple of weeks including signing some guys who were labeled "hard signs". Another just signed a few minutes ago accorfing to DK's blog. If we sign Alvarez I would have to say the Pirates would win the award for the best draft in MLB this year regardless of if we sign Scheppers.

Potential talent that turns out to be real talent is when you hand out awards.

True; that is why I said "potential talent". I don't own a crystal ball.

So Bullish, what is your view of Nutting now that he has spent millions of dollars above slot to sign draftees?
