The surgery cleaned out the area above Dumatrait's rotator cuff to remove an impingement. Dumatrait, who mostly has been sidelined since mid-June, will begin a throwing program in early October and should be ready for spring training.

One of the few brightspots this season, too bad...hopefully he can bounce back and be effective next season...

Agreed. Dumatrait really looked like a front-line starter and I am hopeful that he returns next season with the same skills that he showed before going on the DL.

The thought of having Dumatrait and Maholm as lefties, joining the righties who can get outs (Karstens, Ohlendorf, etc.), with Gorzellany and McCutchen in the wings if somebody falters, makes me feel a lot better about the Buccos starting pitching next year. And this staff is young - they could become pretty good.

Dumatrait was quickly becoming one of my favorite pitchers and a guy who I felt like was going to give us the best opportunity for a win.

I like the idea of this rotation next year

1. Karstens
2. Maholm
3. Ohlendorf
4. Dumatrait
5. Snell/McCutchen

Maybe Snell can return to last years form and move up in the rotation.

I don't mind the guys but the order that you have them is off. Karstens won't be a no. 1. I still think I'd like Gorzo up. He has taken care of his walking people at AAA so he should be up soon.

After I posted I looked over the order again and though that maybe it wasn't the best. But those are the guys I'd like to see. If Gorzo can prove he has regained his control, I'd like to see him thrown into the mix as well.
