The Big Unit has to be licking his lips..........

1 - Gomez 3B
2 - Minky 1B
3 - Sanchez 2B
4 - Michaels CF
5 - Moss LF
6 - Pearce RF
7 - Chavez C
8 - Wilson SS
9 - Karstens P

The only fireworks in this game may be the continuation of the Johnson - Minky dustup from last month!

Nothing like punting. I bet Karstens was real happy to see the lineup that will be supporting him.

Honestly though, I can't blame JR for it. Getaway game, against a tough lefty, with nothing to play for.

Listening on the radio. Lanny has already made about three fly balls sound like potential HRs. Karstens sounds like he's getting hit pretty hard.

The game is on TV. Karstens has pitched three scoreless, and got his first major league hit, a line drive single to right.

Freddy just took Methusalah deep to left field. 1-0 Buccos.

Karstens is out pitching Johnson through 4, Arizona still looking for it's first hit.

Pearce continues his quest to strike out at a 50% clip. I think he's pushing 30% right now.

If Lanny hasn't jinxed it by mentioning it every 2 seconds I think were ok.... ;)

Boy, you should hear the NY talk shows now.

Cashman all of the sudden is an idiot

Do you realize that Karstens has pitched 15 consecutive shutout innings for the Bucs? When was the last time that happened?

Maybe he is just pitching good right now, but that game was awesome for two reasons. He didn't walk anyone until the ninth and he consistently threw his breaking stuff for a first pitch strike.

Oh man was that awesome! I wish he could have had the perfect game, but FINALLY we see some good pitching for this club. So sweet... so sweet!

Thanks NH for getting this guy!

BBF -
Have to agree with you on the "B" team assessment. However, what is the old adage? "That's why they play the game on the field and not on paper."

You just never know.

I called my wife right before the top of the 8th inning and told her to start the DVR. I blame myself for jinxing Karstens. Damn!

One has to wonder what will happen when the league has a book on Karstens. In the meantime, it has to be pleasing to the offense not to be chasing 4 runs in the first or second inning. That has to be getting old . . . real f'in old.

According to MLB gameday, he was throwing 89-90 mph the entire game. But in the first game against the Cubs, he was hitting 92-93 mph pretty regularly. His curve is good, with nice downward movement. He can throw the curve 2-0.

If he is throwing 92-93, with that curve, then the fact that other teams become more familiar with him is not as much a concern than if he is a Josh Fogg (86-88 mph with a mediocre curve).

I am so excited about this youngster. I don't want to be disappointed though.. I remember a 21-year old Sean Burnett throwing a shut out some years back. Let's just pray Karstens stays consistent and free from injuries.

Despite the strong start, he is not likely a top of the rotation guy.

If he can be a solid #3 or 4, I would be very happy. That's something we desperately need, considering that we only have one guy who has been consistently good this year.

It is just nice to watch a pitcher who has some idea of where the ball is going.
