Quote:
Yoslan Herrera lasted 1 1/3 innings, removed mercifully by manager John Russell after giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. He threw 34 pitches, 20 for balls, and three times crossed up Doumit.
That earned him an immediate option back to Class AA Altoona afterward.

"He didn't pitch well," Russell said. "He was just all over the place."

Am I the only one who thinks Herrera looks older than 27?

I hope we've seen the last of him. The Pirates need to put more of their new toys into the rotation.

Yeah, wasn't Herrera just called up from Altoona to fill our hole in the starting rotation due to injury?

The cross-up issue makes sense. Doumit was really having trouble with Hererra last night, and had three pitches clang off his mitt. I was seriously concerned about another thumb injury.

Doumit went out and ragged on Hererra after the third mess up. You could see he was ticked at him.

Let me add ... on all three pitches, there was NO RUNNER AT SECOND BASE. Once, there was no runner at all. The other two times, there was a runner at first.

Astounding that Hererra cannot keep this stuff together and crosses up the catcher with nobody at second. Just amazing.

Can a language barrier extend to hand signals also? Time for Gorzo and/or Ohlendorf...

AA?

It should have been the waiver wire.

Apparently they're calling up Romulo Sanchez from Indy to replace him.
