A hit by pitch and three singles by Andy LaRoche, Michaels, and Jack, and voila a 2-0 2nd inning Bucs lead.

As I see it a new era begins today. How nice it would be to see young Karstens get a "W" in his first game wearing black and gold.

Pleased to see Karstens hitting in the 9 hole where a pitcher belongs.

The young man is outpitching the veteran.. for now. Let's hope this keeps up.

Anyway is Xavier Nady the leading hitter in the AL now? Also how many at bats does Ryan Doumit need to officially be in the race for the batting title? Of course Chipper is way ahead.. I'm just curious.

Yes, give thanks for the small things, like seeing the pitcher bat 9th. Let's hope this ends the experiment.

Lazy fly ball.. PiratesFan.from.NL, how long have you been following the Pirates?

How many pitches is Karstens allowed to throw in this game? I know it doesn't really matter who gets credit for the win but I reeeeally want to see this young man get the "W" but I have no faith in our bullpen holding this lead. Maybe we can score some runs off their relievers.

I just noticed there's only five people online here. I was thinking there'd be 20-30 based on how much activity there's been lately.

My next question.. we're in the fifth inning already.. why only one video clip in mlb.com's Gameday so far? They didn't show much last night either. Grrr..

Hey ollie.. you are correct "lazy" but sometimes dutch and english are not the same in translation..

i am following the pirates since 1989 (i was 13, and the only baseball there was in europe was on airforce radio and
highlights of 1 minute on CNN Sports)

and yesterday everybody went online on work to see what happened i guess.. most people do work now and
cant see the game.. for me.. i am from europe and its 21.58 right here.. + vacation... eh.. how about you??

Big situation here in the 6th for Karstens. Need to get out of this 1st and 2nd and one out. I like him so far, works fast and pitches have a lot of movement. I think he is getting squeezed by this HP ump though.

He's probably about done but hey, 6 shut out innings already. I know he was running through the rain drops but he got out of the messes. Only 5 hits-- but 4 walks.

All in all-- much better then JVB and his friends.

Who is JVB?

Actually refreshing not to start a game down 6-0. I don't know a whole heck of a lot about Karstens but in the admittedly short look at him he is a MAJOR upgrade over JvB. He did what he was supposed to do, keep 'em down and let your offense build a lead. I just hope the relievers hold on to get him his first Bucco win.

Let's go Bucs!!!!!!!!

Suddenly, Bautista loses control. Bringing in Burnett with the tying run at the plate.
