I love this guy. He was a great Pirate. But now he has to replace Manny?

I mean he will be in a playoff race which will be fun, but the Masshole fans will be brutal if he strikes out just once.

I am happy for the Pirates but disappointed he had to go to my least favorite team.

I'll miss Bay too. I really think signing him would have been the better move, but if trading him was going to happen, I like the return.

I am teed off a bit.

This deal did not have to be made.

Our Buccos are back to dealing what major league talent we have for "prospects" and minor leaguers. That is OK if you are a AA team, but to win in the big leagues you have to have big leaguers.

I am tired of having a team full of "prospects". They might as well be renamed the Pittsburgh Curve.

I looooooove this deal. The Pirates lost with Bay, they can take their lumps without him.

They are major league prospects. Laroche Hansen have major league experience and are major league ready.

LaRoche is our best third baseman right now.

Bautista, LaRoche can both play second as well. Alvarez can play first. Heck, if these guys are good enough, they will find places for them to play.

Moss could also be in the mix for some ABs.

First, it's a great trade, but more on that later.

Second, Bay will flourish in Boston. He's going to see pitches he only dreamed of while in the burgh. He's going to be protected by Mike Lowell, David Ortiz, Kevin Youkillis, etc., instead of Sanchez, Bautista, Wilson, etc. He's not being asked to carry a team, simply help it.

My only concern is how fast he can get used to the Green Monster, but I'm sure he'll be fine after playing in the maze that is left and center at PNC.

How did the Pirates get Jason Bay?

I see the poster's point, but I it seems this trade actually brought value. They key now will be locking up key guys when the time is right, adding pieces that make sense, etc.
