They just purchased the contract of Jay Gibbons from the Atlantic League and sent him to AA to get some playing time...

Former major leaguer Jay Gibbons is getting a second chance with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Brewers have purchased Gibbons’ contract from the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks and will assign him to their Double-A affiliate in Huntsville, Ala.

The 31-year-old Gibbons was released by the Baltimore Orioles in March after he batted .189 with no home runs and four RBIs in 16 games in spring training. He played in only 84 games last season because of surgery on his left shoulder.

I appreciate their effort, but I think Gibbons is done. Minor league deal, though, so no harm in trying.

I wouldn't say signing Jay Gibbons means they're going all out. Sabathia was a nice pickup, but Durham and Gibbons won't help them catch Chicago.

Chicago is going to have to really struggle in the second half for The Brew Crew to have a shot at the Central.

Just need the playoff Jeremy, not the Division.

I think they'll easily lock a WC.

Don't look now but the struggle may have already begun . . . . at least this person hopes so! :D

I don't. St Louis is 1 game behind them. Florida and New York are only 4 games behind them.

It's far from a lock that they'll win the Wild Card.
