Part of a letter Neal Huntington sent to ticket owners(enablers)

Quote:
They have implemented a detail-oriented plan that emphasizes hard work, fundamentals and playing the game the right way. John has set a high level of expectation for each individual player and each staff member, as well as for the team as a whole; he also has held all involved accountable. While we have not won enough games to be considered a serious contender at this point of the season, this Pirates club works hard and competes from the first pitch of the game until the last pitch of the game. Our 23 come-from-behind wins ranks fifth in the National League and 10 wins in extra innings leads the Major Leagues. Both are a reflection of the team's resiliency.

American Legion teams use fundementals, compete, work hard & play the game the right way. Resiliency? Reflection? Your Win Loss record is the only relection. Accountable? Who makes ownership accountable? I read some of you say the Pirates are fun. You think its fun to lose?...year after all time record breaking years? More BS spin from baseball on the cheap but very profitable ownership. I guess some of you just like it, love it and want more of it.

DL and McClatchy dug a significantly deep hole and as hard as it is for some fans to swallow, it will take nearly as long to climb out of it as it took to descend into it...

I am not suggesting that it will be 15 years until they are competitive, but it will take several seasons worth of quality drafts, well orchestrated trades and a full inculcation of the regime's development philsophy before the needle moves. While trading players like Nady and Bay will certainly help, at the end of the day there simply is no way to accelerate this process...

Ownership did what they needed to do by forcing out McClatchy and firing DL...Now they need to have the patience to allow Coonelly and Huntington to turn the ship around...

As someone who in my professional life has taken over corporate teams performing poorly I can tell you that there simply isnt a quick fix...there isnt one magical move that will change everything...it takes a plan and dedication to that plan to reach success...

As fans we can choose to go along for the ride or not, but the train will be leaving the station whether we are on the platform or not...

McClatchy was the front man. If you follow the money it has been the Nutting family and their money that has been the main influence and the reason the deep hole has left the Pirates about to become the longest yearly all time loser. As fans you can choose to make ownership accountable and get off the Nutting gravy train.

You are right, Mick, that DL and McClatchy dug a deep hole for the franchise. But it's not fair/accurate to absolve Nutting. He shares part of the blame.
