Apparently, the Pirates were scouting the Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa's AA team) during David Price's last start. Obviously, I know there is no way in hell we get Price, but I was looking over their roster, and for the life of me can't figure out who else we would be after. Aside from Price, all the other trade pieces seem to be SP's, none of whom would have been in the game that night if Price was pitching.

Any thoughts?

Don't be sure there's no way in hell. If the Rays keep falling, they might look to do something big.

Possible, I guess. But Price may well be the best pitching prospect in baseball, and the Rays don't strike me as a team that will panic. They know that even if they miss the playoffs this year, they are stacked to contend on an annual basis.

Then again, if there were any organization with enough pitching talent that they could dangle Price, its the Rays. They are lllooooaaaaaaddddeeedddd.

If Pirates are looking at David Price, I'm guessing that means the Rays are interested in Jason Bay because there's no way they're getting him for Xavier Nady.

Could be a huge move in the works.

I really don't see any chance of us getting price even for Nady and Bay and all our minor leaguers.
He is amazing.
He is going to be the best pitcher in baseball for his time when his time comes.
Which will be sooner than people think.
If we can land him thats the biggest thing to happen to the Pirates Since 1978.
He is a franchise changer.
We should give up everything we can to try to get him and if they do it for just Jason Bay i'm going to go run around the streets of Pittsburgh naked with Price is #1 written all over my body cause it will be the greatest day for the Pirates in my time.

You guys realize that if we make a trade with the Rays the Pirates would be the laughing stock of baseball. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to make a move for a guy like Price but I think the media (and my friends) would laugh at the fact the Tampa Bay Rays invaded the Pirates talent at the deadline.

Just like 'Old School'.

Give the date so I can get there and see that. Could be a real memory maker.

The fact remains that I still have no idea who the Pirates would have been scouting aside from Price. Charlie mentions some relievers on bucsdugout.com, but I would imagine they would not be the centerpiece of any deal. Now, if Littlefield were still around, I'd be afraid that they were looking to build a trade around one of the 29 year old relievers...

As for Colin...I'm pretty sure that if we were to get Price, Dr. Andrews would be running through the streets of Birmingham in similar fashion...

Any pitching prospect we get, be it by trade or draft, will blow his arm within two years.
