Quote:
The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade on Tuesday, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia.

The Cubs received the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer Josh Donaldson.

“We’ve been working on Mr. Harden for a few weeks now,” Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said.

Harden, eligible to be a free agent after the 2009 season, is 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season. He’s scheduled to $4.75 million this season.

The oft-injured righty missed a month earlier this season because of a right shoulder strain. It was his sixth trip to the disabled list in his six-year career.

Tell that to the Red Sox, Rays and Angels.

They're not in the same division are they. No other division in baseball has a tougher three right now than Chicago, Milwaukee, and St Louis.

Perhaps, but that's not what you said. You said "The top 3 in our division are the toughest in the majors." That's another way of saying "The Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals are the best 3 teams in the majors." Well, I disagree, because I don't think the Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals are all better teams than the Red Sox, Rays, or Angels, and the latter three don't have to be in the same division to prove your statement wrong.

It is somewhat amazing that the central went from the weakest division to one of the toughest quickly.

The NL Central is a division. The top three teams in the National League Central Division are better than the top 3 teams from any other division.

If that is what you meant, then perhaps you should have articulated it better the first time.

Usually you are correct about symantics in verse. I re-read the post and I got the intended meaning from Jeremy the first time.

I was somewhat miffed to see that you had lumped the Angels with the Rays and Sox. That left me asking 'are they in the same division.

Perhaps just this once it was the misunderstanding and not the mis-statement.

The Cubs really are loaded. On paper, I would say they could go all the way, the problem is ... they're the Cubs. Something will happen to prevent that.
