I am really, really starting to hate MLB. Have you guys seen the All-Star ballots? Jack Wilson (who has been injured most of the year), Adam LaRoche (who absolutely sucks) and Jose Bautista (no comment) are on the ballot but Ryan Freaking Doumit is not on the ballot. What, they couldn't put both him and Paulino on? Why is Paulino even on the ballot? It is the worst run league in the world.

I could be wrong, but doesn't the team send the candidates to the mlb offices. I thought I remembered hearing that a few years ago.

I understand what you are saying, but does it really matter? Would Doumit get any votes anyways? By letting fans vote, you are turning it into a popularity contest where name recognition means more than production. I seem to remember one year where someone (maybe I am thinking of Griffey Jr?) was voted to start after being injured the entire first half of the season and playing only a handful of games.

At the same time, you don't want to alienate the fans and not let them vote. Do as I do...pretend there is no such thing as an all-star game.

I get what you are saying BBF but it just shows how lazy and uncaring the people who run the league are. It makes my blood boil with all the little things the league does wrong. Would Doumit get the votes? No he wouldn't but it would show that the league knows the players that have played the game instead of sitting on the DL (didn't Manny make the team last year after playing only 5 games?) and players that shouldn't. I think it should be a pre-requisite to hit, I don't know, over .200 to be considered.

If that were the case, there wouldn't be very many Pirates on the ballot...

There are a few ways that this could be handled.

1. MLB could take all the votes and "lie", saying certain players were selected. Gasp! MLB would never lie would they?

2. Have the fan vote be only a percentage of the outcome. Have the fans, players, and coaches all vote with weighted voting structure. Gasp! MLB would never be this smart would they?

All Star Voting, HOF voting is a joke. Then again the top rated shows in the USA are American Idol and Dancing With The Stars. Give the masses what they want. Popularity and quality do not go hand in hand. Take All Star voting for what its worth. Doesnt baseball also have to have one player from each team? They prohibit a salary cap so that must be MLB's form of socialism.

BTW I voted 2 time for the MLB HOF. An old sports writer who didnt follow the game let me cast his votes. I would have done it longer but he died.
