I really loved when we signed Snell at the beginning of the season, but after watching him walk six the last game, I really am having doubts about him. Ian always gave up some longballs and I can take that because you are challenging the hitter. But him and Gorzo are walking too many people for my taste.

Watch Snell's ball-strike ratio today. It will tell the story.

Not a good story by any measure. I repeat from last time-- he has lost it.

BTW I was real happy we signed him too. So, I won't blame NH for doing it.

Agreed. I think anyone who claims they saw this coming is full of feces. I'll also go on the record and say that I am still confident that he will turn it around and make the contract worth it, and that this is largely growing pains. But man, he is making it hard to believe that.

What happened to his slider? It was 85-90% fastballs today, and few of those on the inner half. He threw more sliders than anyone else in MLB last year, not that it was a banner year, but better than this one so far.

Apparently, according to the PG, Snell was pitching with a sore elbow. He had this to say after the game...

Quote:
You've got to show your team you want to be there," Snell said. "It doesn't matter if you're sore or not. I wanted to show my team that I wanted to be out there. Obviously, I didn't have it, and I was still trying to be out there."

He raised his voice slightly.

"I never give up. I don't care if people boo me, tell me I [stink], whatever. You're not going to take my manhood from me or my competitiveness from me. Nobody will ever do that! Ever! Until the day I die, then you take it from me

Well I guess that explains the lack of sliders thrown. That's the toughest pitch there is on your elbow.

I guess the bright side is that the problems with two of our starters are mainly physical. And probably with Gorzelanny too. Perhaps it's easier to recover from it than from mental issues.
