Hey, I didn't know that the World Champion Pirates of 1960 never reached the playoffs again during that decade. What happened? Did we lack pitching? I guess the Dodgers became the team to beat, but we must have fielded some decent teams..

Lightning in a bottle?
It was a tough league. Both leagues. Only 16 teams remember.

I'm so dumb! I didn't even consider that. So few teams. The Giants must have been pretty good then, too.

Giants were always good. Mays and McCovey and the Alou's. Juan Marichal too. Dodgers were always tough along with the Braves and Cards. Phils and Cubs were the doormats of the 60's.

Actually there were 10 teams in the AL after 1960 and in the NL after 1961, but only one from each league went to the Series. Divisional play and two more teams for each league came along in 1969. Before that there were no playoffs.

The Pirates won at least 90 games in 62, 65 and 66, but they finished 4th, 3rd and 3rd in those years.
