. . . in bringing Richie Sexson back to the NL?

I'd guess not. But the Everett (Wash.) Herald is reporting today that the Mariners will release him in the next few days and that he'll almost certainly clear waivers because of the size of his salary ($15.5).

His last HR came way back on May 24, and he has had only 2 RBI since then. He's hitting .219. He's also 33 years old.

The URL, in case anyone is interested in reading the piece:

I know, I know: "Adam LaRoche" is French for "Richie Sexson." :P

How much of the $15.5 million would a potential suitor be on the hook for? Who knows? A change of scenery...

Sorry to disagree, but I don't see Sexton as an upgrade at this point in his career. Not worth whatever money we would have to pay.

If he is released, the Mariners have to pay his entire salary. We would then be able to sign him for the prorated portion of the league minimum, or at least that is my understanding.

I'm not even sure he worth that anymore though. I guess if you got a half decent trade offer for Laroche you might consider Sexson a stopgap to transition to Pearce. But honestly, who would give you a half decent trade offer for Laroche?

I'd check his bat speed. If he's still got it, consider him for some pop off the bench. At league minimum, I'd release C Wilson and replace him with Richie.
