MUST do a better job than they are doing right now......MUST!

This barely getting through the fifth or sixth inning is not good enough. Our Bullpen is going to implode by the end of this long season. And the Pirates do not have a decent long relief pitcher.........how sad is that.

Complete seven innings boys and keep it to no more than an average of 4 runs. That's when this team will really begin to put longer winning streaks together and finally make it over .500.

Until then, forget it.

The starting pitching has definitely been a disappointment, but there isn't a team in the NL that is averaging 7 innings per start. The Phillies are leading the league at 6.05. The Pirates are getting 5.60, so they can certainly improve there, but 7 is probably out of reach.

You're not going to believe this (I didn't either until I ran the numbers), but the Pirates rotation is currently averaging 3.57 runs per start. Their ERA is 5.28. They've got to get that number down to the league average of 4.46 at least.
