I know the Pirates would be considered rushing some of these players to the big league level.....but I really think until they arrive, the Pirates will continue to lose. I think the Bucs lineup needs to look something like this for them to really be contenders:

in no particular order....

Outfield
LF-Jose Tabata
CF-A. McCutchen
RF-G. Hernandez

Infield
3B-P. Alvarez
SS-?
2B-?
1B-G. Jones

Catcher
T. Sanchez

I prefer Milledge to Gorkys, but other than that, I think you are close to what NH envisions. As for middle infielders...well, maybe Andy Laroche can play 2nd? Also, as we discussed yesterday, guys like D'Arnaud may fit in nicely. However, this time last year we were saying the same things about Brian Friday and Shelby Ford...

Don't forget Josh Harrison, our newly acquired 2B propsect from the Snell-Wilson deal. Last I checked he was tearing up High-A ball.

Brian Friday finished with a flash guys. He got healthy at the end of the year, and flashed his earlier form. I wouldn't give up on him just yet.

I also am not writing out Doumit just yet, or writing in Sanchez. Sanchez projected to be a backup catcher, and that is where I am going with it until he shows otherwise.

Sanchez was projected as a 1st round pick. You don't draft backup catchers with first round picks.

NH has said as much.

They picked their No.1 this year to pick higher end talent later. Most 1st rounders fail completely anyways. Half the others barely make a MLB roster. Projecting a backup in the 1st round is not unusual in reality.

I'm going to have to ask for proof of that. NH has never devalued a player publicly. I highly doubt he would have called his 1st round pick a backup. But, if you have the source, I'll eat crow.

No BBF, NH hasn't said "he'll be a backup". He gives his evaluation on draft day that says, and I paraphrase, good defense, some pop, has to work on hitting the ball. That translated to the guru's as a .240 or hitting, defensive specialist. He might develop into a starting catcher. I won't argue that. I am simply saying I'm not putting him in the starters slot on a 2011 team right now. I am still hoping that Doumit overcomes the injury bug.

Fair enough. Can you show me that? I don't recall any scouts suggesting he wasn't a starting catcher. Perhaps the Bob Smiziks of the world, but I don't recall anyone else (ie those I would label "gurus") saying that his ceiling was anything less than a starter.

I'll try to drag it out of hiding. It all came with the early criticism's about him being way too low on the rung for the Pirate's selection.

I mentioned it earlier on another thread about Rocco's predictions...I'll try to find the link to the pod cast of it in a bit

but from what I remembered his predictions of the 2011 lineup are:

Sanchez-C (rookie)
Pedro- 1B (1st full year)
Young- 2B
Chase D'Arnaud- 3B (rookie)
Cedeno- SS
Milledge- LF
McCutchen- CF
Tabata- RF (1st full year)
