Roundup of the Pirates' affiliates ...

LYNCHBURG beat Salem, 5-4, in Game 2 of the Carolina League's best-of-five Mills Cup championship series. That gave the Hillcats a 2-0 series lead. LHP Rudy Owens (1-0, 1.46) allowed two runs and four hits -- one home run -- in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out seven, walked one. CF Jose de los Santos (.304) broke a 4-4 tie with a walkoff solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. He went 1 for 4. It was just his third home run in six professional seasons, the first since 2005. 2B Chase D'Arnaud (.214) went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. C Tony Sanchez (.143) went 0 for 3, was hit by a pitch and committed a throwing error. Box score

LHP Jeff Locke (0-0, 0.00) will start Game 3 for the Hillcats, 7:05 p.m. tomorrow at Salem.

I'm excited by this, good performances by some future Buccos and key pieces in all the trades made this year...

That was Jose de los Santos' first homer in four years. I read that at milb.com

I'll try to remember to listen to WKDE Lynchburg (KD Country!!) online tomorrow night.

D'Arnaud is having a great series. We may have a SS there.

Rocco was talking about the 2011 Pirates a couple of weeks ago and he has him at 3rd base and Pedro at 1st...He has Cedeno at SS still in 2011

Wow, that would only be one more year in the minors for D'Arnaud! That will be quite a climb in one year.

It would be a big jump...He must think he'll be at AA to start next season...

I don't know...does Darnaud have the power to play 3rd? We gotta get power from somewhere. I'd look at that lineup and say that Alvarez would be the only lock for 20 homers. McCutch, Tabata, Milledge, Cedeno, Darnaud....unless you have power hitters at 2nd and catcher?

I hope like hell Alvarez sticks at 3rd.

Chase had 17 2B's 1 3B and 11 HR's his senior year in college (2008) for a .314 avg, .415 on base %, and a .547 slugging % in 59 games

He had in State College in 2008 10 2B's, 5 3B's, 1 HR, .286 avg, .333 on base %, and .423 slugging % in 43 games

This season in West Virginia, 14 2B's, 3 3B's, 3 HR's, .291 avg, .394 on base %, .423 slugging % in 62 games

And in Lynchburg, 19 2B's, 4 3B's, 4 HR's, .295 avg, .402 on base %, .481 slugging % in 54 games

It seems there is power potential there with the 7 HR's and 33 Doubles...but I think it would look alot nicer if those power numbers were in a middle infield spot

Very nice that D'Arnaud and Alvarez both hit well in one level, and when moved up hit even better.
