We are going from first to third and especially from second to home much more often then last year.

I was always frustrated with our conservative base running under Tracy. Some times you get thrown out, but more times there is no great throw and you're safe.

This season we take home when in the past we would be held up, time after time.

It seems like steals are down and bunts are up this year over last. Anyone know for sure? I'm to lazy to check.

I think the Pirates are last in SB attempts, which is fine with me. I want the hitters to make the outs, not the baserunners.

The Pirates baserunning seems to have improved quite a bit. We take the extra base when it's there, but don't get thrown out very often.

I agree it has improved some. Playing off of an earlier thread, base running is one of those areas I think you NEED observation. Stats alone tell you some of the picture but not the whole thing. You can tell if a guy is getting a good jump or not or if the catcher made a lolipop throw or not based on stats.

How refreshing. A post from someone who WATCHED some baseball and made an OBSERVATION. Others then used stats to SUPPORT their observations.

A stat sheet alone would not come close to telling the whole story here.

Some of us older fans may value base steeling more because we remember the days of Chuck Tanner. He had everyone running. I don't mind guys getting thrown out from time to time. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.
