It looks like we'll find out if he was being "lowballed" as the players, media, and fans insisted. I would say we could make a run at him, but DY has earned that job thus far.
I always have liked freddy, but I do kind of enjoy this after the crap storm that NH endured after the offers to Freddy and Jack.

If his option doesn't get picked up, he is going to regret not taking the Pirates offer. He won't get anything more than a one-year, $3 million deal.

Where are the posters who were critical of Russell sitting Sanchez in an effort to try to keep him healthy through a full season? Wonder what Smizik thinks now? Was it really such a poor strategy to rest Sanchez? Now it looks like Sanchez should have been "babied" even more.

$10 million over 2 years might be looking awfully good right now. Not so "insulting . . ."

Check Smizik's blog in today's PG. He has changed his tune.

Smizik noted, in part, "A lot can change in four weeks. Taking a look at what has happened with the Pirates and with Sanchez and Wilson since the trades, the deals shouldn’t be raising the level of anger they did when consummated." He also noted, "As stated earlier, it’s much too early to evaluate these trades, particularly with the Pirates receiving four minor leaguers from Seattle and one from San Francisco. The Pirates also sent Ian Snell to Seattle. But considering the fact Wilson and Sanchez were not coming back, the Pirates have done very well in replacing them in the short term."

Smuck Fizik.

If Freddy had not been traded, and the Pirates were the one to put him on the DL yesterday, Bozo would have been screaming for all that would listen about how it was just the Pirates being cheap.

Gee, I would have thought Estrago would have provided the link to that. In the words of the great church lady: "How conveeeenient!"

That's really too bad for Freddy. He's a class act, and is going to miss out on a nice paycheck because of injury.

That said, I'm still glad we moved him. Nice to see that Smizik thinks so now too........................
