Good Lord, how many 80-mph belt-high sliders is Davis going to throw?

If son threw that pitch, I would tell him to scrap it since it is going to be crushed. What a garbage pitch.

Doug "Lollipop" Davis: 2 IP, 2 hits, 2 walks, 0 K's - and 0 runs allowed.

The lawnmower is calling me . . .

This inning - second time through line-up, with 2-3-4 due up - Pirates need to start crushing Davis. If they do not score this inning, it is a sign that I need to get off my ass and mow the lawn.

I'm out. Watching this offense is making me sick.

I know that many have observed that the starting pitching is the team's weakness this season, but the hitting has been dreadful for about 2 weeks, other than the 14-run explosion against St. Louis.

Great AB by Jack. Took what I would guess about 9 pitches before lining one into CF and scoring Chavez. Speaking of Chavez, with his two hits tonight he's now batting .286.

The way this time has rallied this year I almost always stick in until the last out.

I typically wait until its a 5 run deficit before I give up on them...and even then I usually have them on the radio when I go do something else...just in case. I've noticed quite a trend on this board though...if a starter has a bad inning or the lineup doesn't do anything the first time through, woe are we. Granted, 15 years tends to breed that kind of negativity.

Doug Davis with the endless series of 80 mph "cutters."

A cutter is a crappy slider. Nothing more. Let's see what the Pirates do with this junk.

Sure it is. That's why Mariano Rivera gets paid so little.

Namecalling. How mature of you.

You said, "A cutter is a crappy slider. Nothing more." Not "Davis's cutter". Not "A slow cutter".

Hey, fatboy - Davis does not throw his at 94 mph.

Neither did Esteban Loiza, and yet his cutter is what turned him from a 5th starter into an All-Star.

And last I checked, Halladay throws a pretty decent cutter that doesn't run at 94 mph either.
